I was working - my first job after graduating college - at a conference center on an old estate. I was the sales assistant and had gotten a call from our exec. chef. Just before we hung up he was like "did you hear about the plane that crashed into the Twin Towers?" It took several minutes but I was finally able to either hear confirmation on the radio or pull up a website - I remember CNN was jammed the whole day. I let everyone in the office know and by that time our sales people stopped making their calls because their clients were telling them the news. We tried to get TV reception in the office but we didn't have cable there so we went to one of the guest room bungalows to watch. I remember seeing footage of the towers burning and them coming down, but I do not remember if it was live or replay. One of our special events coordinators had a brother who was on a conference call with a branch in the WTC and they heard something along the lines of "That plane is going to hit us" and then static on the line. That day and the next week was chaos since we had guests that were stranded with us because of the no fly and we were helping them make alternate travel arrangements. We also had several conferences cancel because none of their attendees could get there.

That day and the two days the space shuttles exploded will be the "days I'll never forget" - much like JFK's assassination is for my parents and Pearl Harbor is for my grandparents.
