It definitely takes a certain type of person.

It depends on where you work. If you work in an oncology unit, of course it's depressing... but it's completely different if you work in the
mother/baby or labor&delivery unit where babies are born everyday.

There's so many different parts of a hospital that aren't as stressful or depressing.

I work in the communications department of our hospital and it's tons of fun. We're constantly working with employees and patients and don't really
see the depressing side of many situations. From working so closely with our nurses, though, I know I could never be a clinical person.

The last time I went to a hospital, it was really disturbing and scary and sad. I could never imagine being there every day...

I worked in a hospital as a transporter. I used to go into the ICU units, the Burn unit, the triage area in the ER. I've taken many bodies to the morgue
and put them in the freezer. You learn how to keep your emotions and your job separate. Whoever said it takes a special person is absolutely right.

I work on an oncology floor. Last time I was there, we had a patient that came in very lethargic and confused/sedated. As I've heard now from co-workers,
she's getting less confused and more oriented and talking. This is usually the exact opposite of what I see on this floor. Doesn't happen often, but
this kind of thing is what keeps me going and from things getting too depressing.

growing up i always thought i would end up a doctor. thank God i wasn't bright enough coz i get queasy around blood or anything gory. i do work in a
biomedical lab and it still is depressing diagnosing someone with some shit that's not curable.

Well, it could be a funeral home instead.

I work in a palliative care unit which is really sad obviously but not all areas are like that.

I admire people who work in healthcare so much.
I think it's an amazing thing to do. |

I've worked in a hospital going on seven years now. Believe or not...you're allowed to have a bit of fun, even when you're there!
