Oh boy....my daughter is having her tonsils out on the 15th. She's so scared about the pain. What did they give you to take?

They gave me Ammoxil and Darvocet. SURPRISINGLY, the Darvocet isn't making me feel strange or feel sick at all. I'm totally against taking pain killers
like that because I'm afraid of side effects. They said my tonsils were almost as big as kidneys, though!

I had mine out when I was 21 and it was super painful and took me a while to get over. The younger you are, the easier it is. Did they give you a prescription
for the numbing lollipops? They saved my life.

They've prescribed amoxicillin for my daughter and liquid lortab that we'll get filled that day. They want her out of work for a full 2 weeks. Does
that sound about right to both of you?

I've never heard of the numbing lollipops!!
They have me out for two weeks. He said the first week is healing.. second is to make sure I'm healed. And it doesn't help that I have a phone job!
I'm hurting pretty bad.. my tongue, too. I took a shower today and my jawline was all bruised! |

Linnea - Did yours ever get worse on certain days? Some people online said they got to day 5 and were in more pain than day one!
I'm hoping I've felt the worst.. trying my best to stay hydrated! |

I think I remember the 4th and 5th day being the worst. How did they do it? I think mine were burnt off with a laser and that was when it scabbed over. I cried
a lot, especially if I slept too long between pain killer doses. I would wake up and just start crying automatically.
If it does get really painful, I would ask about the lollipops! You could only suck on it for 15 seconds at time every 30 minutes so one would last all day, but it was seriously amazing. |

Oh man! I hope they're not the worst for me! I had the Co2 Laser Tonsillectomy, too. I have white crap in the back of my throat now.. and my hangy-ball is
absolutely huge.
That was me just now with the painkillers. I fell asleep at 9pm, when I was due, and woke up at 11 feeling like I was just out of surgery! |

As a side note, it was the best thing I've ever done in my whole life. Before they were out I was getting strep up to 10 times a year and had pretty much
constant tonsilitis. I (knock on wood) haven't really been sick since then.
My breathing changed also, before I got them out I was only breathing at 73% capacity because they were so swollen and when they checked me after surgery I was at 98%. |

I hope it helps me! I had a bad case of Mono back in April and started snoring SUPER SUPER loud because my tonsils were SO huge. I had Scarlet Fever twice last
year too.. so between everything, they said it would be best.
I wish Chloraseptic would help now like it did with the Mono! |

This is all making me a bit nervous for my daughter. She's just been walking around with huge tonsils for ages now that have started growing their own
little appendages and whatnot. It's been horrible since she had mono two years ago and the doc finally said they come out. I'll ask about the lollipops
though. That sounds like a good idea.

Don't be nervous! They took good care of me in the hospital. I got a little nautious afterwards but they gave me meds for it and I was fine!
I'm afraid to see what it's going to show up like on my medical bills.. I have no clue! |

Oh, ours is totally covered by insurance other than a $50 co-pay for outpatient services....and of course the co-pays for the meds.

I'm 22.
My insurance has the 500$, which I've almost met because of the doctor's appointments leading up to this, then they cover 80% of it. |

Samantha - The big thing that they told me they were getting mine out for was because I was having a bad time sleeping. I woke up 10-15 times a night and
sometimes gasping for air. They said it could've been the tonsils causing sleep apnea.

Isn't getting your tonsils removed super painful and more strenuous when you're an adult? Ouch.
I got mine out when I was like 7 I think. I don't remember much of it, but we have pictures of me lying around at home after the surgery and I don't look too happy lol. |

It is pretty painful! I have nothing to compare it to.. I'm just hoping that with this, there's a light at the end of the tunnel - unlike with the
Mono!
