My s/o's not allowed but we've both done it separately and got mad at each other over it.

Well I know my boyfriend doesn't really like that I smoke, but he really can't say anything since he used to smoke, and still would if he didn't
have a job where they tested.

You would think the greedy companies would want to capitalize off of a product that already had such a pull/demand, package it and sell it themselves at a profit. Aaaanyway... It would bother me if my husband of almost 10 years (who has never touched pot a day in his life) all of a sudden came up to me and said "I think I'm going to start smoking pot" just because that is not at all who he is and that's not the guy I married. If it was a one time thing and he just wanted to try it I may let it slide but if he wanted to do it regularly all of a sudden I may have a problem with it. |

coboardgirl wrote:The person you quote kinda has it wrong. It had a lot more to do with race and class than money. Harry Anslinger, the dude who was the frontrunner to getting cannabis (and i call it cannabis because the only reason the name marijuana is used so widely now is because the early anti-cannabis soldiers wanted to link it to mexican immigrants) illegal was a fucking racist. He threw the word "nigger" around like a baseball, sometimes when he is describing drug users. Then there's Nixon, who threw out a study he commissioned that showed cannabis wasn't nearly as dangerous as originally thought and shouldn't be illegal BEFORE reading it, said, "...every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing marijuana is Jewish." There were a lot propaganda in the 50s, 60s, and 70s that tried to scare suburban america by saying marijuana makes young white girls want to have sex with black men. Harry Anslinger was quoted as saying, "Colored students at the Univ. of Minn. partying with female students (white) smoking and getting their sympathy with stories of racial persecution," he noted. "Result, pregnancy." They also tried to equate it with herion abuse, which was a big problem at the time. That's when they coined the term "gateway drug". If cannabis is just illegal because pot is such a dangerous drug, why is hemp illegal when it can be grown to have no THC content at all? I can got in all that bullcrap, but it's smoking time.

As someone studying to become a medical health professional, I think I should inform you that there is a high possibility that anyone that smokes marijuana can
either deform their ovaries (in a female) and testes (in a male).
and yes, I would have a problem with it... especially if you are even playing with the thought of someday having children with him. |

Who the hell cares? You sound uptight as hell...a joint could do you some good.
Since you don't live together, then I don't see the problem...at all. If the smoke bothered you or something then I could see, but like I said, you don't live together so let him smoke a bit if he's chillin at home or something. You wouldn't say anything if he wanted to have a couple glasses of wine at the end of the day so I don't understand how weed is any different (unless he plans on smoking 24/7 or something...but it doesn't sound like it). Some good to know facts: "In 1988, the DEA's own administrative law judge concluded that "marijuana is one of the safest, therapeutically active substances known to man." Cannabis can be used as a medicine to treat nausea, pain and muscle spasms. It alleviates symptoms of glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, migraines an other debilitating ailments. Thirty-five states have passed legislation permitting medical use of marijuana. More than 400,000 Americans are arrested each year on marijuana charges. More than 400,000 Americans die from diseases related to cigarette smoking each year. More than 150,000 Americans die of Alcohol abuse each year. BUT IN 10,000 YEARS OF USAGE, NO ON HAS EVER DIED FROM MARIJUANA."

Why is it that when someone says they don't like weed, they asked to give reasons for their dislike?
WTF, can't people just not like it? To the OP, you have every right to not want to date someone who smokes weed. But your boyfriend has every right to start smoking it if he chooses. If he chooses to do so, then you need to figure out if you are indeed okay with 'dumping his ass' OR if his usage might be something you could overlook. I know this is a tough decision, so good luck.

The OP's bf definitely LIED to her by saying he's tried pot before. No person just out of the blue decides to do. His best friend probably knows this
and has been trying to convince him to smoke again. So the OP's bf brought it up with her to gauge her reaction. It's really sad that your bf is AFRAID
of you that he can't be honest about that shit. Calm down and have a rational discussion about it with him.

Anyone who feels this strongly paranoid and uptight about weed could definitely benefit from a few bong rips. But they will never know how wonderful it truly
is.
