Only very few people could really be called icons, imo, but she is big.. just not an icon in my book.

I can't even read this thread. I can see that people wouldn't consider her a personal icon to themselves, but her influence is undeniable. Even if she
had not influenced anyone, she's still a huge pop culture icon just for being a well-known entertainer since she was a child. Not to mention the fact that
the whole Superbowl thing was a real game-changer for the broadcast industry and the repercussions are ongoing.

That whole superbowl mess was overblown and she aplogized. I don't consider her an icon. She makes great music back than and people look up to her.

She's had a lot of success and she's respected in the music industry...she sings, she dances, she acts, she entertains....and she's good at all of
it. She's been around for years. I think that deserves some kind of icon status.

Janet is an icon. So is Britney and Beyonce. They're all icons for various reasons, so people need to accept it.
Janet-For her last name, performances, hit singles Britney- teen pop phenom, album records, music videos, image Beyonce- Best selling r&b girl group, mega solo success |

I think many here seem to be confusing the term icon with legend. Janet may not be a legend like Michael was, but she's certainly an icon.

Yes! Anyone that says she's not is crazy! Janet is the shit and almost all of the female popstars out these days rip her off.

Of course. I think people forget that MTV even did a special on her called MTV Icon. She is a huge influence on many female pop artists (Ciara, Britney,
Beyonce, etc.). Her influence cannot be denied. I'm just afraid she won't get the respect she deserves due to her lackluster sales lately.
