Even when they're being obvious about it.
I just watched the episode where Michael is falling for Gob's girlfriend. When he comes to tell her he has feelings for her, she gets a call saying that Gob has been stabbed in the back (in prison).

Oh, and I love no event in the series more than Buster's missing hand. He is trying to defy his mother, Lucille. He goes into the ocean and has his hand
bitten off by a "loose seal". His brother inadvertently gave that loose seal the taste for animal blood. THEY ARE GENIUS.

Oh, oh! And the episode I'm watching now, which ends up with Michael in a car with an accidentally kidnapped woman, bones in the backseat, and red nail
polish all over the dashboard looking like blood.
