The source has done jumped all up on this story: Chris Brown may not be doing any jailtime after pleading guilty to felony assault against ex-girlfriend Rihanna, but if Jay-Z has his way, Brown won't be seeing much stage time either. According to The Source, Brown had spent three days in Los Angeles, rehearsing for a tribute to idol Michael Jackson at the BET Awards on Sunday night. However, Jay-Z, who helped discover Rihanna and served as her mentor, threatened to cancel his own performance if Brown was allowed on stage. BET producers eventually agreed to shut down Brown's tribute. The reaction over at The Source has been mixed, with some commenters applauding Jay-Z for making a stand: I for one have to hand it to Jay for sending a powerful message that no matter HOW talented you are, you don't get a free pass for acting like an animal. Don't you think Rihanna would have enjoyed going to the Grammys … but oh wait she was in the hospital with a busted face. Others, however, feel that Brown, regardless of past behavoir, should have been let on the stage: Granted Chris Brown messed up in the worse way but banning him from paying tribute to one of his icons? Its not like it would have been a redemptive performance. No one will let Chris Brown forget what he did, there will be jokes and reminders for years to come. He is the new "Bobby Brown/Ike Turner joke." But despite all of that he was going pay his respects to Michael Jackson the way he knows how. The night was about Michael, not Hova. What do you think? Chris Brown not a good bet for BET awards, says Al Sharpton Chris Brown was a no-show at Sunday night's BET Awards because producers pulled his performance at the last minute. According to several insiders, Brown's appearance was considered risky business on a night honoring Michael Jackson. The "No Air" singer is facing negative publicity after pleading guilty to the February assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. One source says Brown's absence came at the insistence of the Rev. Al Sharpton. "Al made such a fuss to the BET executives that they pulled Chris," says our insider, who adds that Jay-Z also had a hand in the decision. "Jay is a big name in the BET community, and he was very vocal about his displeasure with Chris attending the ceremony. He didn't want Chris anywhere near the awards so close to the court's ruling." Brown isn't taking the public dis on the chin, either. "He's furious," a pal of the singer tells us. "BET asked him to perform and waited until the last minute to tell him it was off. He's pretty shocked and outraged right now." Both BET publicists and Brown's camp say the singer was never confirmed for the show. Meanwhile, Rihanna's absence from the event was just as noticeable as Brown's. But while her ex fumed, the "Umbrella" singer was busy hanging out with her crush, Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis, in NYC. Says a rep for the beauty, "Rihanna was never meant to attend [the BET awards]." Also expected at the ceremony were Usher and Justin Timberlake; both bowed out of the event but agreed to take part in a later tribute to Jackson on BET. Usher, who attended fashion shows in Paris over the weekend, sent his regrets in a prepared statement. Timberlake was also out of the country, hitting up both Wimbledon and the Hard Rock Calling concert in London. But perhaps JT should have made the ceremony at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium, because in his absence, he was the recipient of a roast by Jeremy Piven. People need to let go, regardless of what Chris that's pathetic.
I hope Chris gets the chance to perform at the VMAs  The tributes will be infinitely better there. BET was shit.

got the real story behind it. The way he hit that girl he has no room to talk ban Chris. It was a hypocrite move if you ask me since the video shows him doing
pretty much the same thing and this is coming from a JayZ fan.

But, as in all things media and news related…it all comes out in the end. Jigga has his side of the story and we would love to get comment from him or his peeps… After sending two-ways and leaving numerous messages from Damon Dash's office to Jay-Z's assistant, Roc-A-Fella has yet to comment in regards to the video. So, fellow HipHopDX'ers we'll let you be the judge…was up with Jay-Z in this video? Is there an explanation that would satisfy die-hard Hip Hop haters like Bill O'Reilly? We sincerely hope so. With the current state of Hip Hop…this is certainly something that we don't need. Holla@yaboi! At Press time, it is our understanding Roc-a-Fella was developing a press release; however after numerous calls on our part they have made no comment on the situations.

I think I remember this. That's why the girl never sued and Jay didn't get arrested or charged with anything. Just read that the clip is from is Hard Knock Life DVD. I don't think Jay would have put that on his DVD if it were real.
