Okay, I'm not trying to be mean but I can't stand this.

My mom has had one for many years. She has really bad knees and now we have an electric scooter for her, but from the handicap parking spaces into the store
was as far as she could get before her knee would give out. Sometimes I drop her off at the front of the store and park. If there are some available I will
take a handicapped parking spot so she is able to walk out to the car instead of having to hold up people waiting for me to pick her up at the front of the
store.

I don't like those people who simply park in a handicap parking to wait for someone or just run in and out of the store and they don't have a permit
and those who just park there because they don't want to go find a parking spot simply because they are lazy. For healthy individuals exercise will do you
good.

This drives me crazy as well. Mostly because my mother has a permit FOR MY BLIND GRANDMOTHER yet my mother uses it ALL THE DAMN TIME and there's nothing
wrong with her. I hate, hate, hate it and I bitch at her all the time for it. She's finally learned not to use it when I'm with her.

If you knew anything at all about getting a handicapped plate- it is not easy. Not true. There are several instances where people at my workplace have been able to attain them with little or nothing wrong with their physical capabilities. |

Wow, isn't this post full of ignorance. While someone being obese can be their own fault, the medical issues associated with it are not fake. Heart
conditions, knee issues, back issues, breathing issues....all very real and all unable to be seen by the naked eye. I actually saw someone make a snide comment
to a very able bodied appearing person and the person who parked in the parking just lifted their pant leg to reveal an artificial limb. Again...couldn't
see it, but it's real. So truly, if they have the tag I just move on. Now if there's no tag I'll report them.
People who use the tags that belong to others is another story entirely but unless you know the facts, jumping to that conclusion is just ignorant. |

Yeah, you don't know the situation. I'm sure people abuse them all the time though. I guess some doctor's give them away. My mom was going to get
one. She has bad knees, but her doctor said she didn't need one since she needs to walk more.

My father looks very young for his age and looks to be in great health. LOOKS is the operative word. Once, a woman came up to my father after following him
from his handicap parking spot to a restaurant. She then proceeded to berate him and tell him how he can be fined, yadda yadda yadda. My father then advised
her that he knows all about fines since he is a retired police officer, and he had to retire early since he is on the wait list for a heart transplant. She
felt like an asshole and told him so. So unless you know these people's medical history, you shouldn't get mad about it.

I agree with everyone who says you cannot judge just by looking at someone. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia so I have lived with people not
understanding. From the outside you do not see any physical evidence of my illness(maybe just the swelling but people just assume I am fat). You cannot see the
pain I go through everyday of my life. I do not have a handicap sticker or anything but I know what these people go through. Unless you are someone who lives
with it you do not understand the limitations and that goes for any illness. So please do not be so quick to judge someone. Fighting chronic illness is hard
enough has it is and then people want to tear you apart or make fun of you when they have no idea what you are going through.

What I can't stand is people that judge others without knowing them.

I'm not going to go into my health problems on the board, but I have two problems that make me feel physically miserable 24/7. And you couldn't tell
just by looking at me. Never judge a book by its cover.

CarissaLuvsYa wrote:But the point to you making the post was you thinking they had it just because they were obese and that's all you went by without knowing their entire story. My mother is overweight, but she uses her handicapped permit because she's had her back sliced open twice, has had rods put in and then taken out when they failed, has had part of her hip bone shaved off to rebuild her vertebrae and even after all that, she still is in pain and needs medicine to maintain a normal lifestyle. But I guess if you saw her, you'd assume that because she's a fattie that is why she has a permit ??

Jes2421 wrote:I hate this so much. Drop them off, park where you can see the door, then drive up to pick them up. How hard is that? It's like they think if they are sitting in the car in the handicap space - they aren't really taking the space. I don't understand this reasoning. Nor do I understand the people who park between handicapped spaces, in the yellow lines. That's worse than being in the space! It ruins both spaces. There is a reason those spaces are marked off! Try getting a walker or wheelchair out of the car in a regular space and you'll know that it doesn't work.

I can't tell you how many times people have been able to obtain doctor's notes for medical conditions that I know for a fact they do not have. Most of them just flat out tell me they are doing it to get a closer spot. It happens all the time. I don't know why people think it doesn't.
