MKIV Jettas have a lot of great features. The interiors are fabulous, good exterior styling, and depending on the model, good engines. The feel of the car is
very German, meaning that the doors close solidly, and things just make sense in how they're laid out.
That said, MKIVs have a lot of quirky issues. Bad window regulators, O2 sensors that like to crap out, and if it's a 2.0 liter engine, it is not be the peppiest car to drive. Gas mileage is reasonable, but not overly fantastic. Also, some people complain that the plastics start smelling like crayons after a while. (Personally, I've never been in a Jetta like that, but it's a pretty common sentiment.) Honestly, I wouldn't buy one unless you knew the owner was obsessive with maintenance. These cars can run forever, but they have to have regular oil changes and a lot of TLC, and I don't trust all owners of VWs to do that. |

I have had a 2002 for 7 & 1/2 years. I had all the main issues people talk about with the car. The engine coils, the windows falling in, and the radio
fuses blowing out. The first 2 were recalls and fixed for free. I had to pay for the radio, but that was just last year. Everything else on the car is/has been
great.
