This may be the dumbest question ever, but I never received financial aid before. I filled out the application and it says I might qualify so everything is
good on that end. But if I do qualify, do they send a check to me, or do they send it directly to my school?

A check for what? First off, do you already have a bachelor's degree? Are you applying to be an undergrad or grad student?

No, I applied for undergrad classes, I don't have a degree at all currently.

The money goes to the school, the school sends you whatever is left after tuition, fees, and books. If anything is left.

First off FAFSA is just a guide for your school's financial aid office to let them know what you are eligible for. If you qualify for grants, then that is
automatic, but with loans you actually have to fill out paperwork at you financial aid office to get them.
Also, depending on your cost of attendance, if you do qualify for grants, chances are that it won't cover all your expenses, especially if you are going to a 4 year university or privavte college. |

I unddestand. I just wanted to point out that it's very possible that your grant money won't cover all your expenses, especially if you are a full time
student.
You may want to look into that. Also, keep in mind you may be selected by the fed's to go through the verification process, which has to be complted before your school sends you your financial aid award info. |

Right, and at that point I would apply for loans to cover any expenses above and beyond the grants right? Is it possible that I wouldn't be approved or
whatever by the time classes would begin?

It could happen. you'll likely get it but it depends on how big your school is and how many other people are applying for financial aid. If you do get a
notice from the financial aid office that you've been selected for verifation, you should take care of that immediately. They'll be asking for W2's
and tax info.

Awesome! Thank you so much
I am only going to community
college this semester, and normally I just paid for it myself since it's not that much money. But last year I was out of a job and did not save enough so
the school told me to try for financial aid. So hopefully that works out, I just want to make sure if I do get it they just send it directly to the school so
that I am covered. Thanks so much for your help!
