yeah it's really really common. Usually it clears up on it's own. It doesn't mean you're a whore or dirty or something

I am confused because my gyno told me there's no test for HPV, that you just know if you have it because your pap comes back abnormal. Now you are saying you tested positive for HPV but your pap was normal... This is what I was told too... |

Again, as stated before, the shot doesn't protect against all forms of HPV. Use condoms!

^^ OMG. Condoms don't protect that much either! I had protected sex about 3 times and got HPV.

There is a test for HPV. If your pap comes back abnormal, they test those cells for HPV strands. Then if it comes back as any HPV strands they do a
colposcopy to check for cancerous cells.
There is NO test for men though. |

condoms are better than none at all. And if you have HPV, having unprotected sex can make it worse. Mine cleared up as soon as we started using condoms.

My gyno told me that HPV isn't completely protected by condoms because it's easy to catch because it's caused by skin to skin contact.

I don't know because when I was told I had it, I was given a print out with the specific strands on it. My gyno said when the pap comes back abnormal,
they then test it for HPV. If it comes back as HPV (because sometimes abnormal can be something simple like a yeast infection, your period coming on ect...)
they do a colposcopy to take a sample of your cervix to see if they cells are cancerous or not. After I had that done I had paps every 3 months for a year to
monitor the cells and once a full year of paps came back normal I went back to yearly paps.

i don't think it's defective, but i think your doctor should've told you that it isn't 100%, as it does not cover every strain out there.

There is a test for HPV. I would get it on every pap that I took. It was like a separate thing that tested the cells for HPV (along with other STDS).

I know there are tests, but in most cases they can tell you have it if you either have warts or abnormal cells on your pap. Usually they don't test what
strain it is because it honestly doesn't matter very much.
I found out I have HPV about a year and a half ago, and it really wasn't a big deal at all. The abnormal paps are a pain and can feel a little scary, but they monitor you so closely once they know you have it that there's virtually no way it could progress to cancer. |

I had all three of the shots, and after my 2nd shot, I found out I have HPV. My pap came back abnormal last year, and I had a colposcopy and biopsy done. I
have mild dysplasia, so I have had a pap every 6 months, all have come back abnormal. I just had my 2nd colposcopy this week, but haven't heard back. I
hate having to get exams so often (once a year was enough!), but I'm not taking any chances.
I find it so weird that they want to do anything to you besides a colposcopy if you don't have any abnormal cells. I would get a second opinion! Just make sure to take good care of yourself and keep your paps up to date!!

EuroMAFan wrote:I missed this response the first time around. I find it very interesting that you say Europeans have such a laid-back attitude towards HPV. On one hand I think a lot of it has to do with money. They want to use scare tactics to get people to spend more money on vaccines and medications and stuff. Like herpes has always been around but now they have those fucking Valtrex commercials on tv every 5 minutes warning you that you will get herpes and you will spread it to everyone you know. On the other hand I do think prevention is important and being aware of this virus and not treating it as just "a fact of life" is important to prevent spreading infection. |
