Posts: 9787 (06/27/2009 10:29 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Friend Block Invite Ignore	Because I got it (the whole 3-shot series) 2 1/2 years ago and my gyno's office just called me to say that I have hpv and need to have that procedure to get my cervix scraped. Like my culture is completely normal and I don't have any abnormal cells, so it's not bad, but my gyno does regular STD screenings in the pap smears. I'm so pissed though. What a fucking waste of money. Nevermind the fact that I never had random sex with random people. It's not like I have a shitload of sexual partners. And add to the fact that I had to have the whole awkward conversation with my boyfriend that I had it and I just wanted to let him know that he probably has it now too. Fun shit.

It's very effective against the most common strain that year, but considering the number of strains is constantly changing...There's no way to protect you against each strain. That being said, it sucks that you're going through this. But at least your cells are still normal.

My friend had it too, but she had abnormal cells and had to have a procedure where she went to the hospital and was like out of commission for days. But the doctor says that if we "burn off" this part of it now or whatever they do that I should be ok and that I shouldn't worry.

It only takes one person to infect you with an STD, so if you don't test (which MANY couples do not do), then you run the risk even with one person. STD's are becoming more common every day. Sorry, but your OP made me think of this.

I mean, its not the worst thing that I could have. And now my parents definitely know that I've had sex. My mom is insisting that she comes with me to the doctor for the procedure for "support." I'm like please leave me alone, you don't have to come. But she won't let it go.

Approximately 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, and another 6.2 million people become newly infected each year. At least 50% of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. What did the doctor tell you about the procedure? This post is making me think I should be tested.
