I don't even think Madonna would get this type of coverage. Yeah, it would be huge but it wouldn't be as huge as Michael's. I think he inspired way
more people than Madonna did.

Madonna inspired people to come outta the closet and vogue. That's something.

I see Madonna getting this kind of coverage. Maybe less because Michael remained elusive and mysterious to the end and Madonna has been brought down to earth a
bit in recent years.

If Britney died in similar fashion as Princess Diana, it would be worse.

Elizabeth Taylor and Cher will get a lot of coverage when they die.

I think if ANY major icon just suddenly died at a young age they would be getting the exact same coverage. The media wants to know why, esp when it is so
shocking and unexpected.

Britney would equal Anna Nicole Smith type coverage..
Anyway.. If it had been Madonna instead of Michael, she would have just a lot of press and stations dedicated to her. But not nearly as many as MJ's. I don't think BET would have Madonna day. They would acknowledge her but not dedicate their day. |

I doubt any entertainment celebrity would. I swear from 6 pm to 3am when I went to sleep BBC World only carried Micheal Jackson news. They didn't do one
other story. I don't even remember them doing one story non-stop like that ever. Even for the last US election or when the last Pope died they would insert
something else that was happening.

I think it also depends on the circumstances of the persons death. Iam probably phrasing this all wrong, but it would depend if it came totally out of the
blue. Everyone is shocked and devasted by Michael Jackson, he was one of a kind that's understandable. But I think its the "out of the blueness?"
that has shocked alot of people. If a well known star died of an on going illness it wouldn't be as shocking. Deaths that are totally unexpected create
alot more media that that of someone who was known to be dying.
Totally probably said that wrong, sorry, just rambling |

It's different with MJ because he was so young and it's so shocking. If Madonna dies at 90 it wouldn't be the same. There are a lot of artists who
"deserve" this kind of coverage but unless it's an unexpected death it won't be the same.

Britney had an impact on pop culture, sure. She's done some big things. Her career is like 10 years old and she will be remembered as a great pop artist.
But she didn't pioneer shit and she sure as well didn't break down any barriers or pave the way for anyone. Sorry, but it's true. Facts are facts. Anyone else who has an inkling to compare Britney's impact to Michael's needs to check their head. |

A little strange talking about Britney's death (*knocks on wood*).
Anyways. I think any iconic figure would have this kind of media circus surrounding them. MJ was a legend and his death was out of nowhere. He was a person who you thought would be in his elderly years when finally passed. Not 50 years old. |

You seriously thought Michael Jackson would get to his "elder years"?

I'm only 24 but Michael had a huge impact on my childhood and I am devasted. I grew up as a child listening to his music as well as the Jackson 5. My dad
used to play his albums every Sunday morning. Despite the troubles he had or the things he may have done the man was a musical genius.

I don't think Britney approaches the magnitude of fame of Michael Jackson. Not even Madonna does.

I think there was more for Diana. Diana's death was a true shock. MJ's is kind of surprising, but he's been troubled for a long time.
