No, they don't. There's a difference. We're not talking about the hours of coverage itself. You're right, any fairly major celeb would get huge
coverage like this. Especially if they died suddenly. Heath is a perfect example. Coverage for days.
But THIS type of coverage. Where the entire world just sort of stopped from the moment you heard, where people had to be around other fans or just others in general and grieve, pray, celebrate that person's life, where you saw hundreds or thousands of people in places all over the world just huddled together, the news using the hours of coverage to talk about the legacy, the impact this person had on generations of people. It's a rare celeb that gets this TYPE of coverage. The only other one in recent memory is Diana. Kurt Cobain is probably another good example (even though a lot in the media missed the point with Kurt). So yeah, celebs get major media coverage when they die. But many times it's a circus (Anna Nicole Smith), sometimes it's respectful yet nosy (Heath). And then there's coverage like this. It's not the same. |

More people would probably celebrate Britneys death than mourn it. She isn't a great singer. She's not even a decent dancer anymore. She is the paps
wet dream poster child. Her death will probably be as big as Paris, Lindsay, and other 'socialites'. She isn't even respected as a musician. WTF.
MTV would probably have a hard time getting people to call in to have anything positive to say about Britneys career other than she used to have a hot body.

Please leave POTUS Obama out of this.
Honestly I don't think there is any other star that the WORLD would be grieving like this at the moment. Not even Madonna. The King of Pop was loved by ALL peoples, every corner of the world you go to just say MJ and someone will relate and know who you are talking about. The only other star/icon I have can attest this to is the late Bob Marley. Anywhere you go, just say Bob Marley and people know who you are talking about and they show nothing but love. |

Britney would not get this amount of coverage. They would discuss it on the ET and tabloid shows... but ABC news wouldn't dedicate a few hours to talking
about her.

I was born in '91 so my view of Michael Jackson isn't that great, since I only knew of him through court trials and the charges he had. My parents
never played him when I was growing up either. But yea, I know he is such a great artist and he does deserve the coverage he is getting. I really can't
think of any other artist that can make the world mourn together.

He had fans of every color of the spectrum and it's sad that I'll have to explain to my children what an impact he had and they'll never be able to see for themselves. |

You think Mariah would have this much coverage? She was dominating the 90s just as much as MJ was. But I still think MJ would receive more. I don't like
this, I don't think it matters much. Everyone is different. I'm 24 and I've always loved Micheal as a person and an artist. His songs and videos
are legendary. I grew up on MTV long before bsb, nsync and britney came along the pop wagon. To me, Micheal Jackson was the ultimate artist.

Britney would get close to the same amount of coverage, I'd think. Maybe ABC wouldn't dedicate time to her but it would be all over the news and anyone
who wants to say it wouldn't be must have slept through the last few years.

I think Madonna would. It all depends on the circumstances. I feel bad even speculating on something like that.

MJ influenced not just my generation, but my mother's as well with the Jackson 5. Not even Madonna can say that. In this age of celebrity culture obsession
I'm sure Britney Spears' death would get a lot of coverage, but I doubt the major networks would be canceling shows to air tributes of her.
This post is morbid. Please no more deaths! |
