I'm wondering why some people are saying they couldn't sleep/are sobbing, etc. I understand that MJ is a great loss to the musical community but
honestly, he hasn't been doing anything that I've seen in quite some time. And on top of that, I realize it's sad when anyone dies but if you
don't know him personally, why does it affect you so deeply?

He was a big part of of a lot of people's childhoods/lives. You don't need to know a person to be saddened at their death.

If a celebrity or athlete who I was a huge fan of died, I would be devastated. I would be bawling me eyes out, and maybe wouldn't even be able to sleep. It
would fuck me up.

Not saying you're not entitled to your opinion, but I always wonder about people who question the grief of others.

Music is a powerful thing. Many people feel personal connections to songs and artists. Doesn't matter if he hasn't done anything in years. He still had
an impact on a lot of lives.

Michael was a big part of my childhood. He was my first celebrity crush. I had all the cassettes and everything. I still listen to his music to this day.
He's just one of those people that I think we always expect to be there. He was kinda strange, but he was so talented that it didn't even matter.
It's hard to explain really. I've never cried over a celebrity death before.

People handle things different. I couldn't sleep and I was crying because I have many childhood memories that tie in around Michael Jackson. His music helped me appreicate music as a whole when I was younger. If people want to cry and be upset, its their right. Just because you don't find a reason to be effected by it, thats you. |

Another thing, can't they just be mourning a human life? I mean...he had children, siblings, parents, friends...and he was a person. People can be sad for
that loss. I cry whenever I hear about someone's death.

I didn't say you couldn't/don't have the right. I just didn't understand. I have childhood memories of artists/celebrities, etc. but I
don't think I would ever cry about it because to me, it ends when their career subsides or you stop following their work, but that's just me.

Why would YOUR memories end with their career? If someone had a meaningful impact on your life it should last forever, hence it being a meaningful impact.

Apparently they've felt a deep, emotional, life long connection to the man and his music.

I'm saying the making of memories end, not the actual memories. So if I was mourning the end of their impact on my life, it would end with their retirement
or whatever else.

Michael was a part of people's childhoods, No matter what happened or when it happened he has touch each and every person in some way. No matter if you a
fan of Thriller or were awed by Scream you were amazed at what he brought to a performance. And you really can't turn on a pop, r&b or even a rap radio
station and not find someone who has not been infulenced by him weither though his much or his dance. So heven if people aren't a fan of his they know and
accept the dept of being a part of everything that we know in one way or another.

I may not get the MJ thing like a lot of people here did, but I definitely understand the uproar. There are some artists who have moved me so much with their
work that I would be just as devastated if something happened to them. I like some music more than I like most people, so I definitely can't criticize
anyone for how they're handling this.

He inspired a lot of people. He had a major impact on our generation's music. Justin wouldn't stand a chance if it wasn't for him. He brought
people together with his music.
