Has it been discussed Farrah's death might be prevented?

And, all the links about the Guardisil deaths are horribly biased aka "STD VACCINE LINKED TO DEATHS!" and on either Christian sites or anti-vaccine
sites. Which makes me raise an eyebrow.

My daughter is currently 13 and I'm not getting her that shit. If and when she chooses to do it when she turns 18 will be totally up to her.

It's such a new vaccine though, if I had daughters I wouldn't want them to get something where the long term effects haven't been seen yet.

LetsHug- Buried in some of the earlier coverage they mention that it was linked to HPV through testing. If you search "Farrah Fawcett HPV anal
cancer" it shows up in many stories. And- it's a medical fact that 90% of anal cancers in women are HPV tumors.

Sorry- flUorination.
Dedaman- "Wait till she's 18 and can decide herself" only works if she's not been exposed at all by the age of 18. The vaccine needs to be given before exposure to any strains. That said, apparently there's this whole conspiracy theory undercurrent on this vaccine that I somehow missed. Though I am not surprised for as much as the right wing wanted to keep it out of circulation. |

Smurf, I understand and respect what you are saying, I've decided to not get her the shot. I'm just not willing to use my daughter as a human guinea
pig on a vaccine that hasn't been out long enough to show the long-term ramifications of the of its usage.

I'm actually reading some stuff now- Hadn't researched it in about a year since I went to ask for the vaccine and a lot of what I am reading is scary!
Interesting stuff, and I'm so glad I got into this conversation. It will definitely make me think!
(Though anal cancer is most often HPV-16 which is one of the ones covered in the vaccine and the more virulent strain, so it would still be worth it if you could prevent 16. At least it would for me.) I think the most responsible thing to say, then, is "Get your pap tests" , get tested specifically for HPV if over the age of 30, and hope they come up with an anal swab like they have for men to use on women. It might be rare, but jeez if a swab up the ass could keep me from suffering what Farrah suffered, it would be worth it!\ Smurf stands corrected! |

Yeah, that's the one I found McKenna.
Yikes, but I just know so many people that have been touched by HPV, and I know how determined "some people" were to keep it out of circulation that it is really tough to say what way is up, you know? You'd never want anyone to RELY on it, for sure, but does giving DPT shots make kids go stomp on rusty nails all willy-nilly? Would there be a danger in putting it in with something else and not saying "This will keep you from getting an STD?" There are plenty of people who will say that ANY vaccine will cause death, depression, autism, ADHD, etc, etc, and it sounds like they've lumped all the basic "vaccine ailments" on this one, too. I guess just knowing people who have been truly and deeply touched by HPV makes me unable to accept the "it isn't even a big deal in the US, Merck just made it so through marketing" argument. |

Then again, if you sit on it, people will say "WHY DID YOU SIT ON IT?!" It's kind of a no-win, and a lot of it is tracking back to the AIDS and
cancer advocacy movements, where people said "don't make us wait for this!" Things are moving a lot more quickly. Is that a good thing or a bad
thing? It's hard to tell.
Of course, I still have friends who won't give their kids ANY vaccines at all simply because they are still "unproven," so how long does it take to prove something? Polio is one of the most hotly debated vaccines given today, yet arguably the one that has saved the most lives. |

At least this is a pretty basic dead-virus vaccine. So maybe it works, but if not at best it does nothing and at worst it just exposes you to the dangers of
the same exact delivery method you've gotten with other inoculations multiple times in your life. That is a risk I am probably willing to take. In other
words, it is a pretty "known" protocol.
Now, what really scares me are all these new drugs for high cholesterol, arthritis, restless legs syndrome, drippy bladder, limp eyelashes, etc. that work on entirely NEW physiological pathways and are rushed through all the same. For anything like that, I'll wait my two years, thankyouverymuch. (Unless, of course, I am dying and it is last-chance drug situation.) |

i haven't read the whole thread so i don't know if this has been mentioned, but the gardasil vaccine has also been linked to increased incidents of Lou
Gehrig's disease. (i work in an ALS clinic)

smurfcore wrote: Please cancer does not discriminate it's victims. I think her father died from the same type of cancer. I lost my best friend in the whole world to cancer late last year. When she found out she had it, she lived only 3 months. I had to have counseling because when she they told her she was diagnosed with stomach cancer, she called me and told me to sit down. The words she said to me was " she didn't want to die" and begging me to please not let her die while she sobbed. I researched everything I could about her cancer because both my parents had it. I thought she would beat it in my mind because of her age and there was a chance. I've spoken with every doctor I know because I was extremely depressed after she passed and I watched her lying in that hospital bed with all these iv connected in her body. I watched them unplug it because at the time they gave her one day to live. I was told if cancer runs in the family, there is little chance of survival at a certain age if any of your parents had it and died . Cancer can appear at any age and stage without warning signs until it's too late. Avoiding having cancer is like avoiding a car wreck of an oncoming car within two feet of you. Yes I'm still pretty ticked off at cancer taking my bff from me...but if don't you think if any one had the answers we could avoid it? I keep hearing about people having lung cancer because they smoked. News flash my aunt who never smoked a day in her life died from lung cancer. Chris Reeves wife died of lung cancer and it was noted she was not a smoker. Cancer pisses me off because it can leave and come right back when it damn well pleases. I fail to believe there is any way to avoid it..sorry just venting

She does however, have a history of prior skin cancer (basal cell). I agee with LetsHugs comments. I have never read that HPV is responsible for 90% of anal cancers. Do you have a credible source- like the Mayo Clinic or the National Institute of Health? |
