maybe she just meant people are rude and don't hold doors open anymore. It is something you should do regardless of race

A simple "Thank you" would've been nice. That was rude!

I would have stuck my foot out and tripped a hag. No matter what way she ment it, she's a bitch.

Old people are weird in general, maybe she's just a bitch.

Yeah, it was definitely rude. But I agree that assuming it was a racist comment or trying to decipher what she meant is kind of pointless. Either way, it was
the wrong response, but you'll probably never know for sure what she meant. Some people are just assholes.

This is very weird. My cousin had the same thing happen to her with an older lady. I mean, she said basically the same thing to her, only she shook her finger
at her, too. (This was a few days after Pres. Obama won the election, in rural TN.)

I would have said, "excuse me?" and waited for an explanation.
I think she probably just meant that she's old, and younger people (such as yourself) should get used to opening doors for her. |

The OP corrected herself though and said the lady was somewhere in her early 40's so that's hardly old enough to expect younger people to open doors
for her. I can't understand if she was a senior and they have problems with arthritis etc. but I doubt that was the case here.

You should have said, "And you're welcome" and kept moving.

I come to realize that after you reach a certain age you really don't care about being a horrible person. A lot of old people are just mean and rude and
they seem to have no issue with voicing how they feel about anything.
That old lady is rude as hell. But like someone else said just say "You're Welcome" and move one. Don't let her mean ass bother you or ruin your day. |
