People can believe what they want, but I really have a hard time respecting Scientology as a religion because of that, and its creator L. Ron Hubbard. The scare tactics and harassment used by the organization to those who want to leave is also pretty sickening.
Is scientology really that diff from other religions?

I could get a Bible or Koran or whatever for free, easily. Even better, I could find out all I wanted to on the internet. But leaders of Scientology fight tooth-and-nail to keep information off the internet and practice scare tactics against those who speak out. They even blatantly lie that Xenu has anything to do with Scientology. Why? What's the big deal? |

How is it any different than the catholics believing you MUST confess your sins in order to get into heaven? Since when did money become such an evil thing? It's just another part of their belief system and to me is no different than other crazy practices, ideas, and beliefs that other religions have. |

because information about the church and beliefs should be available to all, not just those that can afford it.
that's one thing i hate about the mormon church, they feed you bullshit in your younger years. i just recently found out what they REALLY believe, none of which I heard a word of in my sunday school lessons. |

DoesThatSparkle wrote:It's not necessarily the idea of money, it's the lies and manipulation and lack of access to information. It's the way the entire church operates. I guess it's hard to explain why it bothers me so much. But you know, I can walk into a church or a temple or a mosque and walk right out just as easily. Once you give the church of Scientology your information and money, you can't just walk out. |

All religions are equally nutty. The problem with Scientology (and Mormonism) is that they're "new" religions, and haven't gone through
thousands of years of being watered down like Judaism and Christianity and Islam and Hinduism.
Yeah, but it's not the policy (for lack of a better word) or tradition of entire other religions. The creator himself said the best way to make money would be to create a religion. All religions basically started as cults that were used to get their "creators," or the men who carried out "the word," more power. |

I've always wondered why non-religious people cared so much about religion. I mainly talking about the OP. You're always wanting to talk about
religion. I'm curious as to why, since you don't choose to live by one.

Also, the hypocrisy of religion and a lot of religious people (not all, but a lot) also makes it relevant to my life (especially when things like the whole South Carolina governor incident happen more often than not).
