the movie is set in Germany/France/Italy and they're speaking English? I was watching the Reader the other day and was annoyed the movie wasn't in
German. Same with Chocolat, especially when I know some of the people actually do speak French

But they're US films. Not German or Italian or Spanish or French.

No. Movies are not real life.

The Reader, yes. I got over it though because everything about that movie was too perfect.

It bothers me if i think about it, but i realize it's just a movie, and a movie from an english speaking country, therefore it's in english.

No, I feel like you have to suspend some belief with a movie.

No but it bothers me when it's a film such as Valkyrie where Tom Cruise plays an SS officer yet speaks in a perfect American accent.

Nah. For some movies, it takes a few scenes to stop noticing, but then you get into the story and it doesn't matter.

No but I get annoyed when they speak other languages and don't have subtitles so we know wtf they are saying

I haven't seen Valkyrie but don't they explain the non German thing in the beginning of the movie?
And no it does not bother me because I am watching an American movie. If I wanted to see a movie in a German/French/Italian I'd watch a movie from Germany/France/Italy. |

They actually start in German with subtitles, then move to English.

When I watched The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - at first I thought they were a British family caught up in WW2 Germany because everyone spoke with a British
accent. And I didn't think too much about it because during that time, there were British citizens who lived in Germany and supported the Nazi regime.
And then later, I read the jacket of the CD and found out that the story was actually about a German family. |

I used to not mind hearing English with accents when I watched movies set in non-English speaking countries. After I heard about Marie Antoinette with Kirsten
Dunst, those types of films where the actors speak to each other in accented English became like nails on a chalkboard. They wouldn't speak to
each other in English during regular conversations; they'd use their native language.

I'm more bothered by inconsistencies with the accents. Like in Disney movies for example, the main characters would speak English with American accents,
but the lesser characters would speak English with an accent of that country.

Its worse when some actors in movies have accents and some don't. Stick to one or the other.

I've thought about it before, but it's never bothered me. Movies defy logic and reality all the time.
