I can't get my Mac to shut down..help? |

The desktop won't shut down. No programs are running or anything. When I try to shut down, or even log out I get the message that "Finder won't
quit. and force quit it" I go to force quit and relaunch it. Yet nothing happens.

Hold down the power button until it shuts off, wait a little, then turn it on again.

do i need to turn it on again? it's been doing this everynight. i finally was able to switch users and then just type in the admins info. just is
frustrating because my mom can't shut it down when she wants (she doesnt know her admin info).
