Judgements like these will force people to listen to more indie acts and/or NOT buy major labels at all.

kimjoy85 wrote:That's stupid as hell. You're hurting everyone in the industry when you do that. If everyone shared the same view as you, no one would make music anymore because no one would be buying it legally. Why bother pouring millions into making an album that won't make any profit? Sometimes I'll download stuff, but I also spend a lot of money on CDs. I think I've already bought at least a dozen albums this year. |

Maybe the industry is bloated and shouldn't be pouring millions into making an album to begin with. How many people get a cut of an album sale? How much is
left over for the artist? It's hard to feel guilty for stealing profits from highly paid record execs who abuse musicians to begin with. Good musicians
manage to put out quality albums on their own all the time without the industry.
and, as you say, many people who download do also buy the album. There have been a few studies that show that illegal downloads can help record sales of good albums. instead, the record companies treat fans like criminals, instead of letting them download and create buzz about the music

I googled her attorney b/c the name was unique and apparently he graduated from Harvard law school at age 19 and was involved in a racial controversy at
Harvard.
Camara posted his course outlines to a popular student-run website. Camara's, however, referred to blacks as nigs. For example, to summarize Shelley v. Kraemer, he wrote "Nigs buy land with no nig covenant; Q: Enforceable?"[7] The notes were prefaced with a disclaimer that they may contain racially offensive shorthand |

doylefan2002 wrote:I understand what you mean, but the bolded statement is funny to me. I know there are celebrities who get into music for the money they can make once they're successful, but I think more of them get into it because they have a passion for the artistry - writing, singing, performing, whatever. The $$$ makes it a dream, but I don't think real musicians would ever be like, "ok, no one is gonna pay for my music? screw it, I'm not writing any more songs." It would just be that much harder for them to get their music out to us if they had to work regular jobs. And just for the record, I do still buy cds of artists I like - my rule is that if I like three songs off an album, it's worth the investment, but I can't discover three songs I like without previewing it first. As an aspiring author, I find this interesting. I know it's somewhat different, but libraries have been letting people share books for free for a loooooong time, yet people still manage to make money writing. Not every author is JK Rowling or Stephen King and many (if not most) still work day jobs to support themselves, but they don't stop writing because they can't make millions, nor do publishers stop printing books because people are sharing them. I write because I have to - it's my passion, and if someday I can make money off of it, great, but that's not WHY do it. If, in the bigger picture, musicians aren't creating music for the same reason, then yes...they'll stop making albums. But the number of independant artists makes me think that it's about more than money for most of them. That being said, I'm staying out of MC for a while.

Semirhage626 wrote:Like when Radiohead offered a pay what you like and only 38% of their "fans" paid anything. 62% didn't give one dime, of course they had the option not to, but here was an opportunity to directly support the artist and the vast majority didn't. The fact is people like to use every irrelevant reason and go through some moral gymnastics in order to justify why they download when the simple truth is we all just want free shit. |

How does a mother of four have time to even sit around and do that? She needs to stay away from the computer. Well anyway... I switched from Kazaa to Limewire
a long time ago. Kazaa sucks. I don't know why people keep using it.
$1.92 million is nuts, though but some people aren't very smart because they don't think. They're just like a kid in a candy store when it comes to dling/sharing songs. |

I wonder if that's why people rename the songs when they upload them... like Backstreet_Boys_All_I_Have_To_Give

The lady at RIAA says she's willing to renegotiate so the mom will probably end up paying $2000 or something.
