I've decided to return to school to finish my degree. As a compromise to my mothers wish that I would major in something a little more
"realistic" so that I will be able to find work once I graduate and also to complement my major I've decided to do a major in communications,
also. My reason for picking this major is that I feel like some of the classes within the curriculum like Principles of Persuasion, etc. will complement my
Film Production Major. However, I remember a thread from a few weeks about the easiest majors and many of you said Communications. Being that I don't
know much about the major aside from the description of classes in the school catalog, is it logical that this major would complement my film production major?
What are other majors I could take that would complement film production? I don't want to waste my time in the long run if it's a useless major.
THANKS!

I think communications is the new business degree.
And for Film majors! I was one too.

There's no such thing that one major "compliments" another major in a general overall sense. It completely depends what you want to do with your
life.

i have my BA in Comm w/a concentration in TV & Film Production and Acting.
i work at a market research company and do nothing that relates to my degree aside from the occassional freelance job. you may want to get a teaching certificate, at least you'll have a better shot at getting a job out of school. |

I want to produce/direct/write. I thought about a business major but I think the curriculum of a communications major better complements my film degree and
where I want to go with it. But I can only go by the description of courses in the school catalog.

I cannot stress what a bad idea it is to major in something you don't want to. I see dozens of probation students who started in Biology or Business or
Communications because it was what was suggested because of job markets, only to fail their classes because they hate it.

This comment kept popping in my head. The last thing I want is to end up where I am right now. My plan for the next 2 years(or however long it takes to finish my degrees) is to network myself like crazy because in the film industry it's more who you know that what you know. Hopefully that will get my foot in the door. |
