Do they actually work behind the scenes in the doctors office or at the actual front receptionist desk??

Depends, usually behind the scenes. My summer job is working in the billing department for the Physicans group in one of the major hospitals in the state, and
we work outside the hospital in a separate building. It's across the street, but separate.

You really shouldn't aim for anything higher than a fast food position.

My husband does that and he works at the front desk though he is a one man office.

I just took an 80 hr course on this that ended in May. My prof. does codeing in cardiology, and yes- you can go behind the scenes & watch doctors perform
procedures (if you want).
