Living with a boy that's not your bf...Thoughts? |

Once again, I have another apartment question. There's a room available in university housing with another student and he's a boy. It's a two
bedroom, one bathroom. Pretty large living room, dining area and kitchen. The rent is really cheap.
What do you think? |

Really I think you have to speak to him more and ask him questions. Like does he have a lot over overnight "company". What about partie? If you
study a lot and like to get into bed early but he has all the guys over and lot's of noise, then it wouldn't work. What if you had a boyfriend, how
would he feel about you having him stay overnight? Sometimes people abuse this privilege and you end up living with a 3rd person who is paying squat! Plus
I'd check the place out and ask him about household chores etc. Another thing would even be your schedules for bathroom time. Nothing more annoying than
sharing a bathroom with someone who gets up 5 minutes ahead of you then hogs the bathroom for 45 minutes and you have to pee or even shower and get ready
yourself.

Don't do it.
*from someone who just ended a less than great living situation with a non-bf male roommate. No matter how great they seem, guys and girls just have different ideas on what constitutes a clean apartment and what constitutes contributing to the apartment and being a good roommate. |

I had a male roommate once. It really didn't work for me. He'd come to me with his girl drama, and by the end of the semester I pretty much was done
with him. Even now we're friends on Facebook/Myspace but haven't spoken in awhile.
He turned out to be a jerk though. He seemed okay before we lived together, but once I got to know him, he was chauvinistic and a bit on the OCD side

I lived in a house with 4 guys, and 1 girl in college, I found they were all VERY clean, and I loved it way better than living in a house full of girls!

I'll probably have a lot of overnight company though because my boyfriend lives an hour away and will probably come over maybe twice a month.
Yeah, I think we just need to talk some more and get the details ironed out. I am also waiting to hear back from another student (a girl) in a different university housing complex. So we'll see how it goes. I feel like one boy is better than...3, right?

I lived with one boy and that was bad enough without having to share a bathroom with him.

i LOVED it before I was married. I lived with two guys, and they were great. Yeah, they had overnighters (and so did I) but it worked out because they knew how
to fix things, and I had live-in bug squishers!
It was SUCH a good arrangement. |

I rented a room in my house once to a guy. Even the lease said he was to take care of his own dishes and leave the bathroom and kitchen the way he found it.
WHich was always left clean by me. Slowly his dishes started to pile up more and more. At first I was doing them but after awhile I got sick of it and
approached him very nicely and asked him if he could please start doing his own dishes. He looked me straight in the face and said "No!" I put up
with it for another month but then finally gave him 1 month notice to get out. I told him I wasn't his mommy so if he didn't want to clean up after
himself, it was best he leave.

So It's a toss-up! Which I guess could be the case with anyone I live with. I'll see how it works out. I do like the idea of a "live-in bug
squisher!"

Maybe I can explicitly say and make him sign the statement, "I will not wash your dishes or fold your clothes"?
I can't let go because it's just so cheap But being a cheapskate can have consequences.

That's one thing I was smart about. I told him he could not use my condo size washer and dryer at all! Our building has a laudry room downstairs and I told
him he was to use that one! That way I didn't have to worry about him leaving wet clothes in the washer or me emptying the dryer!! But if you are sharing,
that's another matter.
