So apparently there was a gay pride event in cincy this week and some members from my church set up a booth at the vent. They put up a big sign that said
'Confessions' right outside and people from this parade were coming in thinking they were going to tell their dirtiest secrets. It actually turned out
that when people started into their confessions, some of my church members stopped them and said "This isn't about your sexual confession....we just
wanted to take the time and tell you that we support you and we're sorry that so many christians have bashed you. That is not who God is and we just wanted
to say we're sorry for you experiences." Some people got really emotional and just started talking about how christianity had turned them away because
they thought it was such a gay hating organization. I wish I would've actually seen some of the exchanges and I just thought it was a really nice thing to
do

That's cool your church did that. I've also heard of that book... like all my friends have read it.

I love churches who accept all people, regardless. That's how it is supposed to be.
I'm not gay, but it is one of the rights that I believe deeply in, and one of the reasons why I stopped attending the church I was going to. There is a gay friendly church in town that I'm looking into, because I wanna start going again. |

I'm more shocked that a gay person stops their celebration at a pride parade to go to a cardboard confession booth.

So do your churches say 'It's okay to be gay, continue in your lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with it'? or are they like 'We hate the sin
but love the sinner. You're welcome here and will be loved'?

Spamster wrote: This is from my church website 8. We already say: "We welcome everyone." To whom does it matter that UCC settings make public statements of welcome specifically to LGBT* persons? Too many LGBT people and their families live with the pain of having believed that "everyone" meant them, only to discover otherwise. No one should have to guess about the "boundaries of inclusion" of a congregation or other ministry. A clear welcome matters to LGBT adults who, seeking to share their faith and gifts with the church, often wonder if they will meet with silence or condemnation if they are "out" in church. It matters to LGBT youth who need the guidance of faith communities as they question and establish their understandings of sexuality, spirituality, and relationships, but fear the same disapproval. It matters to families which too often hide the fact that they have LGBT children or other relatives. Fearing the indifference or rejection of their church, they are cut off from support and sharing which would enrich them and their congregation. It matters to LGBT clergy who often feel that to serve the church they must hide their true selves and lives. It matters to all Christians who believe that God's affirmation of the gifts of loving relationships and sexuality are not restricted to those who are heterosexual, and who look to their church to witness to God's inclusive love and help them to better understand and live it. |

I don't think the "hate the sin mentality" is apart of our church at all. In the early 70's we ordained the first openly gay minister, my
church in CO used to hold same-sex commitment ceremonies and we had a gay choir called Out Loud. I think UCC has a "God loves everyone no matter
what" mentality and God is love, sex is a part of love so there is no reason to hate sex or sexuality in any form

Why would anyone at a gay pride parade go into a booth entitled "Confessions" expecting to confess their sins? That makes no sense.

Yeah Christianne wrote: The Bible condemns many things, not just those alone. What Christians lose site of is that in the Bible, God, and Jesus do not hold any sin "worse" than the other. All sin is equal and we are all equal in it - from a baby to an adult. Love the sinner hate the sin. |
