Everyone has a number one priority in their life, whether it's a kid or something/someone else, but that doesn't mean that mistakes (even fatal ones)
don't happen in regards to them. Like I said, it's beyond sad and horrible and unacceptable, but anybody is capable of making a mistake like that even
if they have the "it could never happen to me" mentality.

pinkberry wrote: Ugh you're dense. What exactly do you mean by "anybody is capable of making a mistake like that"? That they are physically able to forget a child? Well yeah, of course they are. Everyone is also capable of not feeding their child, or leaving them in their crib for 15 hours, or plopping them in front of the t.v. Capability isn't the issue. It's about responsibility and negligence. Forgetting your child in the back seat is completely negligent and is not just "an accident". |

I read a really in depth story about this topic a while back. It is really heartbreaking and very long.
http://www.washingtonpost.../27/AR2009022701549.html Apparently this kind of thing happens when people break their normal routine.

I'm not dense. It's like that saying that everybody is capable of murder, most people just choose not to commit it (or something like that...I had a
prof who said it a lot). That article pretty much summarizes what I obviously couldn't get across in my posts. I know parents who have had children stay
late after school and they forgot to go pick them up because it's not what they normally do. That doesn't make them negligent or irresponsible parents,
it just means they made a mistake one time. Obviously it's a different scenario if they routinely forget about their kids or obligations.
I'm done arguing though. Some people can understand how/why things like this happen and others can't. Nobody, including myself, is saying that what happens is okay or acceptable in any way.

I also stated that it seems to be fathers that did it more, not "idiot" fathers (nice word addition), that I noticed in the stories I HAVE READ. Don't talk to me about educating myself...I made an assumption based on what I have read about and that is it. I don't feel the need to google shit every time I make a statement on a message board especially if I am not arguing the point. If I didn't care to know the truth I would have continued to say I was right and dismissed the facts regardless, but since I did neither and actually admitted she was right, you need to STFU! |

This happened to my doctor and his wife a few years ago in the summertime. They had been running errands with the other 3 children, and the wife felt sick with
a headache, so they went home. The husband thought the wife took the baby in the bedroom with her and the wife thought he got the baby and the other children
out of the car. When the wife woke up a few hours later, they realized what had happened and the baby died later that night at the hospital.
It does happen, there is no answer for it and it is very sad news. But please don't judge these people. The pain they have to live with is enough. |

This happened here recently but the baby was 14 months, I believe. A lady who worked at a pet store went straight to work instead of dropping off the baby at
the day care. It's so ridiculously hot down here that I can't imagine what that poor baby went through. A mom from the day care I used to work at was
coworkers with the lady.
I just don't understand how people cannot notice/remember the baby as they're getting out of the car and closing the door. It's so sad and inconceivable.

I just can't imagine your baby not being on your mind all day. My nieces are on my mind constantly; do they need more juice, what time did they go down
for a nap, I hope her cough subsides, I need to OH SHIT I LEFT THEM IN MY CAR!!!

CrunkGurl wrote:This scenario I could understand way before I could possibly understand someone up and forgetting their child. And I will say it again, it amazes me that it has to be said that in order to not forget your child, put something else that apparently you would NEVER forget (a purse) in with them. So you would remember a purse before a child? That advice just reminds me of 'do not operate electrical equipment in water'. It's sad that it has to come to that. |

If the parents are assuming instead of communicating crucial things such as "Hey babe, do you have the baby?" then there is something very wrong. |

jeepchic20 wrote: Sure the purse is MUCH less important but think about it this way. I have been carrying and keeping track of a purse since I was 12 and I am 29 now. So I have been keeping track of a bag for 17 years. It is way more imprinted in me than a baby I have had for a few months even if the comparison makes some people upset. |
