I actually think Joan is a central part of the group. People seem to forget that "Army Wives," just doesn't mean the wives that are at home while their husbands go off to war. There are army wives in the army, and they needed to portray that in order to really make this accurate. Yeah Roland is with the wives a lot, but he's not an army wife. I actually think that they need to expand her character to really show what women in the army with families go through. I think her having a baby and then going off to Iraq is going to be a big plot.
