I screamed so loud....thank god there were no kids in the office. I really hope the 2nd part on Thursday isn't as bad. Now I just have to wait for my
vicodin.

Aw, I'm sorry. My aunt works as an assistant in an oral surgeon's office and she claims root canals are the most painful procedures. She said she saw
this big burly biker guy cry once in the chair.
I hope you feel better! |

so you at least got the work done? that was quick!
Maybe I'm glad my dentists decided to skip the root canal and go straight for extraction. |

Really? I work in a dentist office and haven't heard any complaints (or screaming) about root canals. Not yet anyway

They should numb the patient with multiple shots of novocaine.

Yeah it was quick. It was a tooth that had a cavity and they said may turn into a root canal. The filling obviously didn't help, so when I woke up this
morning in pain, I went to the dentist. The started it after 4 injections and said that they had to let the infection drain before finishing it. They also
claimed it won't hurt as bad after the infection is gone. I just need to let it drain and take my meds.
But damn it, kaiser better hurry the fuck up with giving me the vicodin... |

MonkeyMonkey85 wrote:I win. I had to get a root canal on the tooth with the crown. I went in because my crown was bothering me and walked out with a root canal. I don't remember much pain during the procedure (other than the needles he kept sticking me with. lol.) but it took forever. I mean granted, he hadn't planned for that and just worked me in around people, but it still would've taken forever. He had to numb me up, take off the crown, clean out the infection, do the root canal, then replace the crown. I felt like crap for the rest of that day and he had me on antibiotics and just old me to take advil for the pain. I was tender for a few more days. I didn't like it. I don't like it when I can't eat. lol. |

I guess it was so painful because the infection had just reached the nerve? Something like that.
So weird...I'm sitting here (pharmacy), and I had this intense pop, walked out to cry, and now the pain is going away. My ear doesn't hurt and my tooth is hurting less. Draining? |

Why did they do the root canal if it was infected? They should have dealt with the infection first and then do the root canal. That's what my dentist did
and the root canal was not bad at all.

Ugh, I know what you mean about infections. I had one last year and it was extremely painful. I was put on antibiotics then had the tooth pulled (it was a
wisdom tooth). Right now I'm suffering from what my dentist thinks is an infection in my gum where one of my wisdom teeth was extracted from. There's a
weird bubble looking thing on it and it hurts so badly that even 600mg ibuprofen isn't helping much

Usually ibuprofen works wonders for me. This is a prescription and it says I can take one up to four times a day...so I'm taking one every six hours

I had two root canals done within weeks of each other, they didn't hurt at all.

They did it today to relieve the pressure that had built up, I think. And I'm pretty sure he said I had an abcess(sp?) and that's why it was hurting so
badly?
Best $30 ever spent - bottle of vicodin, bottle of motrin 800's and the amoxicillin. I'm going to be happy tonight! |

I had a root canal on a tooth that had a bad infection that wouldn't go away. I was on strong antibiotics for weeks and I felt awful--and still in bad
pain. I ended up having an apicoectomy, which was pretty awful because I felt so bad to begin with. *shudder*
Glad you're feeling better, OP. |

My root canal was traumatizing, but not painful. One of the tools my dentist used to clamp something in my mouth rocketed out and landed on the floor. Annnnd
he got a tool stuck in, something, i don't remember, I just remember it was stuck and the pressure was intense.
I'd rather have my tooth fall out than have to get another one! |

I have to have one next month. I'm nervous!!
He told me that I shouldn't feel much though. He's very very good with pain management and I didn't feel a darn thing when he pulled another tooth and I worked the next day with no problems whatsoever, sooooo hopefully he's will numb me up good for this root canal too! |
