I was at a church meeting tonight. I am a facilitator for some of the teen girls there and the topic of discussion was answering tough questions like
"how do I know God exists". I was actually excited for this discussion, until we got up to the point where one of the facilitators discussed how if
kids start showing interest in Buddhism, Islam, etc then we should discredit all that, saying "Jesus Christ is the only way", in more elequent words
of course. Now I know if you're Christian, you are supposed to believe everything Chrisitan, but this I don't agree with. I can't sit there and say
"Islam is wrong, so is Judaism".I have NEVER believed this. Even as a Christian, I believe there are more than one path to God. I don't
understand why religion/faith are so mutual exclusive. One of the faciltators also said that when we say things like "I believe there are more than one
path to God, it's like a control issue and you don't believe not putting your faith in God'. Everyone was agreeing with this and I almost damn near
exploded. I don't see being open minded about other faiths as a control mechanism. I swear to God, this is why no one likes Christians ![]()

I think religions are stupid because they assume to know every answer as an absolute.

Intolerance and dismissal of another's DECISION to believe in something different is the root of all religious discord in the world. You may not agree
with the tenants of a faith but to disrespect a person's choice is so stupid. As a Christian myself, I can believe and practice the tenants of my faith
without feeling pressured to denigrate any other faith. I may desire to see people embrace Christianity but I'm not gonna speak ill of anyone's
choice.

It's just so coincidental that people believe to be the absolute truth whatever religion they are raised as. They just literally take it as face value.
What if they had been raised another religion? Then they would be all about that one and claim that one as the truth. Common sense just tells you that's
ignorance. I know people believe a lot of things based on how they are raised (things like politics and such), but religion is the worst because people rarely
question whatever they are raised with...and that's not only problematic, but scary in some ways.
I know some people switch religions because they do their own "research" and exploration, but very few people do. People are like sheep when it comes to religion. Your family is baptist? So then are you and you believe that to be the "right" religion. Your family is catholic? So then are you and you believe that to be the "right" religion. Etc, etc. |

This is why I don't like calling myself a Christian.

PL, I understand where the facilitator was coming from only from a biblical standpoint, one Im sure youre aware of. What she said was based purely on scripture
which is that the only way to the Father is through the Son. In that respect, there is only one path to God.
In any event, there is the need for exploration of beliefs for some people and that exploration should be allowed. God allows us to make a choice and why shouldnt parents allow their children that same freedom of choice? |

So an insane person (let's not say just christians) is one who doesn't believe in any religion but the one they practice?

I believe she is trying to say an "insane" person is someone who only sees their religion as the end all be all of truths and doesn't even accept
the possibility that other religions may have valid points/beliefs as well. Although I don't know where the hell you get this "insane" word
usage...
Makes perfect sense to me.

I mean, you mentioned what a sane christian is. So I wondered what would make an insane christian. I don't see how I am trying to pick a fight. You're
just getting really defensive.
