So, when kirk and sulu landed on the romulan drill thingy, they took they're protective headgear off. due to the whole anti-gravity thingy in space, why
do their heads not blow up/explode? Isn't that the whole point of astronauts wearing helmets and toting around oxygen tanks?

oh okay, that makes more sense, but even then, that high up they'd need something to help them breathe, or maybe Vulcan's got some special atmosphere?

They were in Vulcan's atmosphere and Vulcan "was" a class M planet, meaning it had a similar atmosphere to earth. They would have been breathing
hard, since they were so high up, but still able to breath.
And of course Vulcan would be accepted by spellcheck....before Star Trek, Vulcan was also the name of a Roman god. And a person who studies volcanoes...is a Vulcanologist. (not sure if the spelling is different or not) |

Most welcome. Any other Trek questions, direct my way. I was raised on the stuff. The classic true Trek....this is an alternate universe, so don't confuse
it with the original.

This is the first star trek movie I've seen so I'm not worried about confusing it with the original...I do however like Data and the blind dude with
the visor but i guess in terms of timelines with this movie that's way in the future, cuz they're with Picard. I do think it'd be interesting to
see a young data and young blind dude with the visor. They're cool.

Picard didn't relieve Kirk? oops my bad. I didn't know it was completely different from Kirk's timeline. I just thought it was one timeline but
different captains/ships.

So it is one timeline but with different captains/ships. I'm going to stop thinking about this because I'll jsut get more confused lol.

Ignoring the new movie for a second:
The Original Star Trek series (original Kirk, Spock, etc...) took place in the 23rd century The Next Generation (and the other Star Trek spinoffs, DS9 & Voyager) took place in the 24th century. So yes, one timeline - but different captains/ships. Realize that there's been about 70-80 years and two other Enterprise ships between The Original Series (and it's movies) and The Next Generation (and it's movies) TOS and the first two Star Trek movies feature the Enterprise NCC-1701, Kirk also captained the Enterprise NCC-1701-A in Star Trek movies V & VI (if you're wondering about movies III and IV, due to the plot lines, they were using a Klingon Bird of Prey instead of the Enterprise, I won't say anymore than that in case you want to see them for yourself). After those movies Kirk and the crew pretty much retired (or else moved on to other ships, other jobs i.e. Sulu became captain of his own ship). The Next Generation's Enterprise is the NCC-1701-D and is used throughout the series as well as in the movie Star Trek: Generations. The Enterprise NCC-1701-E (still captained by Picard) then appears in the films First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis. The other "in between ships" not captained by either Kirk or Picard: The beginning of the film Star Trek: Generations showed us the Enterprise NCC-1701-B (under a brand new crew and on it's first trip out of space dock). And then there's the NCC-1701-C which showed up in The Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" getting involved in a bit of time travel. And I have no idea if that helped at all of if I just sound like a random Trekkie (or Trekker?) spouting off useless nonsense...but...yeah. Clearly there's a couple of us here that can help answer any questions you or anyone else might have. |

Think of it this way....and this is not considering the "new" movie. All the Enterprises have registry numbers, NCC 1701 and then what comes after
seperates them all...so here are the captains (I don't recognize the crap that was the series Enterprise, so I don't include it)
NCC 1701 -- April, Pike, Kirk, Decker, Kirk, Spock, Kirk (destroyed over Genesis) NCC 1701 A -- Kirk (decommissioned, "destroyed" in a novel) NCC 1701 B -- Harriman (longest lasting Enterprise) NCC 1701 C -- Garrett (destroyed by Romulans over Kitomer) NCC 1701 D -- Picard (and Riker in certain instances) (destroyed over Veridian 4) NCC 1701 E -- Picard (damaged in collison with Reman battleship) Yes, I'm a geek. |
