I actually don't know anyone who made a big deal by having an engagement party. Usually, people have a bridal shower, bachelorette party, and then the
wedding.. but a friend of mine is having an engagement party at a restaurant. Do I need to buy her a gift already? (I already know how much she's paying
per person, but I just never really heard of people buying a gift off the registry for an engagement party... especially if they haven't even set a date
yet for the wedding, and haven't even looked at any venues. The wedding won't be until at least next year, and they don't live together.) Advice?
Do you buy a gift for an engagement party?

I have never heard of having an engagement party. My fiance just proposed, and that was that.

Since their wedding is so far away (have they registered?) I would either do a nice bottle of wine or a gift card to a nice restaurant. She registered at SO MANY places! She's so gift-happy.. it makes me not want to get a gift.. at least not for this party.. I would of course get her one for the wedding. She registered at a few stores just because she gets free gifts for each registry, apparently. |

My friends had an engagement party. It was neat how they did it. Instead of buying the bride a gift, they instead made it about the groom..since a lot of women
just do the whole bridal showers and men just say whatever. We all pitched in and brought him a really nice grill.

I didn't expect gifts at my engagement party but we got em and I was shocked because I never thought that that's what engagement parties were all
about. I just expected them to be about friends and family coming together to party that someone was willing to marry me!

We're having one on June 13th. I've never heard of people registering for the engagement party, ever. It's a big deal to have one in his family
considering his culture and background. (He's Italian.) The big gift is money, in all honesty. I'm kind of happy about it because that will help us
somewhat with the wedding that we have to have for the families that either of us want and can't afford. So I say, bring on the engagement party.
