You should try ING!
I used to make wayyy more money though when their interest rate was higher. But I think that overall I made $500+ in interest.

Uh, neither.
I have keep my money in the following: - registered tax-free saving account which is linked to a mutual funds portfolio and very liquid. There's a cap of 5K a year on the contribution though, and I am only saving in it for tax purposes. - Two mutual funds - I have one GIC. - Registered retirement fund - Cash account at a broker. That's more of my "fun" money where I do my personal trading. I don't have a large chunk there because I have very low risk aversion! There's very minimal money kept in my chequing or regular savings account because that's the stupidest plan ever. |

Any money you earn with the employer plan can be transferred over though. And it's a huge tax saver so most, if not all Canadians, have it. There's a cap of 21K contributions a year |

I like my money where I can see it - hanging in my closet
J/K. I put about half in savings and half in checking, enough for groceries, gas, and rent. I want to save for a down payment on a house so I don't have to rent apartments for too long. |

- I have a chequing account that I do my day-to-day banking in.
- A high-interest, locked savings account for emergency money. - A tax-free savings account which Simmm explained earlier. - and an RRSP that I'll probably cash in soon to pay for the down payment of my first home. |

I have it in high yield vip checking right now. It's a marketing ploy to make you feel superior to normal savings accounts LOL Basically it's the same
thing. It earns interest each month & I think I get penalized if it gets below $5k. But, I don't touch it.

What money????
But, in all honesty when, if I do have money... I usually keep the majority of it in my savings and only putting what I plan on spending and then some on my checking. That way I don't really overspend. |

Are there any other high interest savings accounts out there? I just looked at ING but the interest rate is 1.5%...that's nothing

What does this mean exactly. I'm an idiot financially, but I'd
really like to start investing...or something
