Oh well fine I take it back.
I just watched a documentary (it was about pitbulls and how dangerous they are) and it showed this dog who had his ear ripped off by a pitbull and basically had its skin ripped off, too. I felt sick. This is why I started the topic. It got me thinking. |

I hate that there is so much ignorant hate about pitbulls. Any dog can attack. I would know because I was attacked by a family dog, it was an Akita. I was
terrified of dogs until my dad got a pitbull. That dog made me trust other dogs again because he's the sweetest thing in the world.

I witnessed a pittie attack and almost kill a 10 pound dog but I understand it could have happened just as easily with a golden retriever. The pittie was
labelled an aggressive dog and now has to wear a muzzle whenever she leaves the house, which I think is totally appropriate.

The reason why pitbulls are considered more dangerous than other dogs is because of how their jaw works compared to other dogs. Any dog has the capability to
attack a person but the pitbull is more likely to cause more damage because of the jaw and because when they attack they get tunnel vision.
That being said, I don't agree with the people that say that all pitbulls are dangerous. It's all in how you raise them, train them, and whether or not you are a responsible dog owner. Any person that owns a dog should be fully knowledgeable on their behaviour as a breed, especially with a pitbull or any other dog that could be considered a "dangerous" breed. |

Last year, some state rep. here in Ohio introduced a bill to ban Pitbulls. The ban would have been that every owner in the state would be required to turn over
their Pitbulls to the warden, who would then euthanize the dog. Also, if a dog was only suspected of being a Pitbull (or mix), a dog warden or other officer
would have been able to apply for a search warrant to have the dog removed from the home.
Thankfully, the bill died. People were very vocal against the proposed bill. |

No. I agree - its all on the owner. Not all pitbulls are aggressive... I've seen them.
And, please mind you, that not everyone like the government dictating what dog they can or cannot have. |

I really take offense to your assertion that they should be banned. My pit bull is great with people, other animals, and kids and its because we kept her
socialized from an early age, are very consistent with her training, and always shower her with affection - not cocaine and regular beatings and dog fights. It
IS how you raise them...no, it won't prevent an incident from ever happening, but because we've raised her with discipline and love, she's now on
an even field with every other breed of dog. Pit bulls are obedient, praise-seeking, affectionate animals who have just gotten a bad rap due to stupid owners
who focused in on their breed because of their eager-to-please personalities and strength.
My dog grooms my cat, and cuddles with the neighbor's 2 year old, and sleeps in the bed with us because she's just a big puppy who wants to love and be loved. Don't you DARE tell me that she should be banned or put to sleep just because of her breed. |

I don't think they, or any breed, should be banned anywhere. I think it's extremely ignorant to do so. ANY dog, f- that, ANY animal can attack.
That's a risk you take.
I was MAULED quite badly by MY pit back in January, and I'd get another one in a heartbeat. I didn't even want him put down afterward because he was not a 'bad' or aggressive dog. He just snapped.. that's WHAT ANIMALS CAN DO! It's a risk, it happened.. oh well. In ALL honesty, it made me glad to have had him the way he was because if someone had broken in [I live by myself] THAT is the dog I would have wanted there with me. |

I hate how people are so discriminatory towards Pit Bulls. Any dog can turn on you and be dangerous, but Pit Bulls have just had more publicity when it comes
to that sort of thing.
My Pit Bull is the sweetest dog that I have ever had. And listens better than any dog I've ever been around. I love him to death. |
