Ok so I am going to the New York State Fair in the end of August. It is in Syracuse. While I am up North I would like to check out some other areas of Northern
NY. Any suggestions? I was thinking about going to Buffalo. I also want to go to Canada, at least to see Niagara Falls and spend some time there. Any
suggestions on where to go and what to do? I am from Southern NY and just want to explore the rest of the state.

Yeah I realize there is not much to do in Syracuse. We are going to the state fair to see Kelly Clarkson. We will probably just spend the day at the fair and
get a hotel room for that night. I want to continue traveling North though and I was thinking of checking out Buffalo. Have you been there? I mean I would only
stay for a night or two. Then I wanted to travel into Canada. I am not sure where to go there either. I mean I know I want to check out Niagara Falls but
that's about it.

Lake George is nice. It's about maybe 3 or so hours from Syracuse? There's an amusement park and lots of little shops in the downtown area.

Buffalo is 2 1/2 hours west of Syracuse and Niagara Falls is about the same if you want to do that. It's pretty much just a straight shot down the 90. If
you go up the 81 though right from Syracuse you can go to Watertown and stuff. There are a lot of white water rafting places up that way.

Syracuse is 2 1/2 hours from Buffalo. Albany is the same and there is not much to do here. Maybe check out the casino in Verona or go up to Saratoga.

I live in Buffalo. I like it during the summer - I go to Niagara Falls (check out the falls, ride the Skywheel, eat Yogen Fruz frozen yogurt, get sucked into
overpriced tourist attractions on Cliffton Hill - $10 for a 15-minute 3D movie?), go jet skiing (you can rent them), etc.
There are Wine Trails here too if you're into that. The Falls are probably your best bet. |

Yes, I have been to Buffalo but not recently so I couldn't tell you much. As other people have mentioned though, Lake George and the casino in Verona are
good ideas. Actually if you are going to be in Syracuse, I would check out the casino because my friends told me they now have a nice club in the casino itself
now. I need to go back and check it out when I go home in the summer. I miss Lake George too. I remember we used to go on the Minnie Ha-Ha everytime we
vacationed there.

You could go to the Adirondacks if you like hiking/nature. You could also go to Turning Stone casino in Syracuse.

If you go into Canada, just make sure you have your passport. You need your passport to drive to Canada starting June 1st.

You could go to the finger lakes and do a wine tour. It's a little far from Syracuse but it's a fun outing.

My husband and I drove by this place Ausable Chasm on the way back down from seeing the falls. It was pretty awesome- especially tubing on a hot summer day.

Also stop by Saratoga Sprinds- it's a neat town to get a drink. |

Saratoga Springs is nice, but it's a little far from Syracuse - about 2.5 hours.

Saratoga and Lake George are pretty far from Syracuse/Buffalo. I think it's close to 3 hours. Saratoga is a neat place, though--there are lots of shops in
the downtown area. It's not that crowded when the track is open.

gravis911 wrote:Thank you, I was coming in here to say the same thing. It's about a half hour from Syracuse, in Oneida. I have not been to Lava, the club at the casino, but I've heard it's nice, and they have a strict dress code. You also, have to be a member to enter, Im sure. As far as things to do here, Carousel Mall is the big mall here. It will be eventually DestiNY USA. They are in the process of building it now. Other than that, not a whole heck of a lot to do here. If you're looking to go out for drinks, Armory Square has alot of bars and there are some nice restaurants there too. They can be pricey in that area. But, if you're going to the fair, I'd just eat there. |
