her own way. She received an invitation in the mail last month for a surprise birthday party which said nothing about the guests paying. She went to the party
this afternoon and after lunch, everyone got handed a bill. How insanely tacky.

That was not very nice to do at all! Very rude for the hosts to do something like that.

Apologizing for WHAT? She should have told her 'Bitch, you're not sorry!' Old cheap ass.

Oh, I can't read. Shut up.
Well in that case, she should have cussed out the host! |

ew! How gauche. So did everyone get billed the same? Or were the bills different depending on what you ate & drank? Did they have an ATM at the party, too?

The party was thrown by the girl's mother in law and people were billed according to what they ordered. If they got sodas, drinks, etc they were charged
for it. I don't know about the ATM but my friend said she barely had enough because she didn't even think to bring cash with her.

It was at an Italian restaurant. She said they were in a sort of private room in the back. I guess the person just made a reservation instead of actually
booking the place.

humm, yeah if I were invited to a birthday dinner/party at a restaurant, I would assume I'd be paying for myself, plus part of the birthday girl's meal
and drinks, too.

What is tacky are all the people thinking they're going to get to blow up someone else's bill and surprised they actually have to be accountable for
their choice.

That really could have gone either way, but it should have been made clear in either the invitation or vocally or something. If you invite people to a party,
especially with an invitation that says nothing about paying, I would assume they are guests at the party and that they would not have to pay for themselves.
If it's more like a get together that everyone basically plans together then I would assume each would pay for their own meal and also contribute to the
guest of honor's share as well. Whenever I've gone to a party at a restaurant, I always knew one way or another beforehand whether or not I would be
paying.
