Anyone have any suggestions for good recent chick lit? I like the stuff by Jane Green, Marian Keyes, Emily Giffin, but all the stuff that appeals to me I've read. I'm going on a trip soon and went to the bookstore to buy some reading material, and couldn't find anything that looked good. Any suggestions?

Have you read any by Sarah Mylnowski? I like everything I've read by her. It's not all new, but if you haven't read it, it's new to you.

Well if you haven't read all of Marion Keyes you should she's one of my faves and her books are all at a high standard.
Sophie Kinsella is also good. The Shopaholic books are lots of fun if you haven't read them. If you have, her others are good as well. Look for Can You Keep A Secret and Remember Me. The Undomestic Goddess is OK as well but not as good as some of the others. Sophie Kinsella also writes under the pen name Madeline Wickham. She wrote a book called Cocktails for Three under that name which was pretty good. I just finished Gilding Lily by Tatiana Boncompagni which is fun in kind of a Mean Girls way. Oh and Sammy's Hill and Sammy's House by Kristin Gore are also pretty good. The author is Al's daughter and the heroine is...well imagine if Bridget Jones was a major advisor to the president. Helen Fielding is good if you haven't read Bridget Jones (but most have)! Her other novel Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination is also fun. I'm actually looking for some new books to read and I'm in the mood for some chick lit so I'm interested to see what others suggest

I second the Kristin Gore suggestion!
Have you read any Jennifer Weiner? Good In Bed, Little Earthquakes, In Her Shoes and Goodnight, Nobody were good. Jodi Picoult isn't technically chick lit, but her books are quick reads. Laurie Graff: You Have To Kiss A Lot of Frogs and Looking for Mr. Goodfrog were pretty good. Jill McCorkle also isn't strictly chick lit, hers focus more on Southern women, but Tending To Virginia, Carolina Moon and The Cheerleader were all good. Prep and American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld. I could go on and on. |

Thank you all for the suggestions!
I'll look for Kristin Gore. Sounds interesting. I had no idea Al Gore's daughter wrote chick lit! Was Prep funny? I like funny chick lit more so than the angsty super romantic kind. |

Prep is pretty angsty actually - if it's the book I'm thinking of by Curtis something?

If you liked the Shopaholic Series but Sophie Kinsella, she also writes under another name - Madeline Wickham. She has several books under that name.

They are technically not chick lit, but Jen Lancaster's books are great and really funny!

I would never insult Curtis Sittenfeld by calling her books chick lit!!!

I recently read some of the Body Movers books by Stephanie Bond and I really liked it. It's like murder/mystery chick lit

Bee wrote: as Madeleine Wickham, she has The Wedding Girl out. I don't know how good it is though. I prefer her as Sophie Kinsella. I haven't liked her books as Wickham. I just read the description for Twenties Girl on Amazon.com and i'm not sure i'll like it. I'll have to check on your reviews before i get it.

Jane Smith wrote: Cocktails for Three was all right. I like when she writes under Sophie Kinsella because it's funnier and a lighter read. Yeah, Twenties Girl does sound a bit weird but I love her books so I'll read it and let you know.

Kristan Higgins' Too Good To Be True was really funny. It had me laughing out loud. I also just finished Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise today
and really enjoyed it.
