So apparently my mom is buying me the new 24 inch iMac cuz I don't have a computer right now and Best Buy has them on sale. I've never used a Mac
before but I'm kind of excited to get it. Does anyone here have the new iMac and can tell me how they like it? Also my brother mentioned that she's
getting me IWorks 08 but isn't there an IWorks 09 out? What comes with IWorks 08/09? THANKS!

I don't know. I just went to the Best Buy website and they're regular price but my brother said they have them on sale at the Best Buy where he lives.

The transition wasn't hard and actually pretty enjoyable. Like a lot of people, I was pretty much fed up with PCs, viruses, and having to wait 5-10 minutes to start up my computer. My iMac was like a breath of fresh air. iWork comes with Pages (word processor), Numbers (excel type program), and Keynote (like powerpoint). I have iWork '08. Oh and btw, you are right. iWork 2009 is out, but I haven't upgraded. |

It is a beautiful screen. Really it is. You will enjoy it. I fight with mine a lot because I have a lot of required programs on it. Slows everything down.
I don't use iWorks at all on it, but I had CS3 and Office on it. I use the iPhoto and I think they just updated that. |

I love my iMac so much. I got it about a year and a half ago and a few weeks ago I got rid of my old windows laptop (it had a ton of viruses even though I had
protection, it was slow, I needed a bigger hard drive and I basically hated it!) so I bought a Macbook to match my iMac.
I find the Mac interface so much nicer to use, I don't have to worry about viruses and I don't end up with a gazillion files that magically appear for no reason in different folders. With the Mac all of the files associated with each piece of software are contained in one folder in applications. I'll never buy a PC ever ever again! I downloaded Office so I don't ever use iWorks. |

I use the 24" iMac at work, and I love it a ton. It makes my MacBook look like such a little baby, and I think when I finish at this job and start grad
school, I might have to seriously consider an iMac. The screen is exceptional, and it's such a pleasure to use. You'll love it.

UPDATE: So I'm getting the 24" iMac shipped to me from Best Buy and I'm getting a giftcard from Best Buy to purchase the IWorks 09 application and
something Best Buy does called Optimization that sets that mouse so that it will work with right or left click(which the Best Buy employee pretty much showed
me how to do), turns on the firewall, and does something to the computer so that it works a little faster. My question is.....should I really pay Best Buy
39.99 for the Optimization if I can do all this stuff myself for free by calling the 1-800-My-Apple number? *bump* anyone?

Don't pay Best Buy, you can do all of that stuff yourself in about 30 seconds in system preferences. They are trying to rip you off.

don't do the Best Buy thing. That's all easy stuff you can do yourself. You might wanna look into the One To One if you are a completely new Mac user.
Apple has it (that is if you live near an Apple store). They will teach you how to use it. $99 for a years worth of lessons.

Thanks for the advice homerowed and Jrtismine. I'll look into the One to One classes...they look really informative.
