I'm taking an additional qualification course this summer and I need the 6th edition. I found a used 5th edition for $20, do you think there will be that
much of a difference between the 2?

I think it depends. It could be only minor changes or it could be a significant change. Sorry, I'm not really any help.

Most of the time there is only a little difference between one addition to the next.

I have bought so many previous edition texts for classes. Usually they are really really similar, just different pictures and the page numbers are different.

Okay, here is my question.
I can buy the 6th edition for $69.00 + shipping. Or, I can buy the 5th edition for $30, shipping included. I checked the school library and they have the 6th edition if need be. |

Would I need page numbers? If they say read chapter 1, then I read chapter 1.

for homework and stuff you might. but if you explain to the professor the situation most of them are nice enough to help you figure it out. i would do it.

you can always email the professor and ask if the edition matters. I got a first edition bio book for 10 bucks and it was the same as the eighth edition,
except that the pictures had been updated.

I don't have the professors email yet. It's an online course and they don't give us access to blackboard until 2 days before, because they're
bastards.

I only did it when the professor mentioned on the syllabus that it was ok to get the old edition. Can you find a used 6th edition?

No, I can't find a used one. Gah, maybe I'll just spend the extra money.

If it is a course where you will be doing questions/cases/exercises from the book than it is good to have the right edition because these can change, also
sometimes the answer keys are no longer available for the exercises (I had this for a finance textbook).
If you are just reading the book for knowledge (not using it for assignments) than it is likely to be less of a problem, unless it is a field that is constantly updating.. If you can look at the new edition in the store they usually tell at the beginning what is new in the new edition. |

I'm too paranoid to buy a different edition because I worry that the page numbers will be all messed up and I'll be confused all the time.

the 6th ed cheaper
