Now I'm wondering if I am really clogged up there or maybe my minor deviated septum is stopping the water from flowing. Help! What am I doing wrong?

I have very bad sinus problems and I pretty much get a sinus headache everyday. It's awful! Anyway I bought a Neti Pot this afternoon and for an hour I
tried to get it to work and no matter what I did, the water wouldn't flow out the other side. I leaned over, I made sure my head was tilted....I watched
all those videos on You Tube showing you how to use one correctly. Nothing! I am very frustrated. Instead I'd pour the water and it would sit in one
nostril and felt like I was drowning myself. I'm not even congested so I have no clue what is going on.

I've had that problem before. Sometimes has to do with the angle that the spout is in your nostril.

Get the sqeeze bottle thing by the same company. The Neti Pot looks weird but the bottle is the shit.

The position of your head and the position of the spout in your nose is everything. Every once in a while I have the same thing happen (and I've been
doing it for a while). Just keep adjusting your head and/or the pot and soon you'll get the hang of it. Practice with plain water first.
Don't give up on it. The results are amazing once you get it down and use it steadily. I hardly ever have to take allery or sinus medications anymore. |

I swear by my neti pot, but my husband could never get used to using one. He finally switched to the bottle:

Actually I just read that plain water can hurt the nasal passages. Hmmm

I have a nasal rinse kit [which is the same thing/idea] .. I've had it over 2yrs and still haven't used it. The idea of snot just.. shooting out of my
nose freaks me out.

StarBrite310 wrote: It can if you use it regularly, but you're not going to. You're only going to use it a few times until you figure out how to position your neti pot, so it works. It took me about three days to figure out how to do it when I first started. Don't do it more than 1x per nostril per day. Try adjusting your head and/or pot several times for each side until you can get the water flowing like it should. Seriously, I have to hold my head at this weird ass angle that is completely different then anyone else uses in those you tube video demos. But what ever works and gets the job done.

I had the same prob when I first started using my pot. But I played with different angles to hold my head and the pot and found one that works. I tilt my head
to the side and forward a lil bit with the pot just resting in the nostril.
I hope you get the hang of it. It's awesome once you do. |

So are you guys looking down at the sink or do you have it up a bit where you look in the mirror?

Hmm. I've tried to find this before but never could. What stores/section did you guys find it at? Is the bottle option in the same area?

StarBrite310 wrote: With the Neti pot, I turn my head to the side with my forehead lower than my chin. I make sure that the nostril that I will put the Neti pot in is directly above the other. Once you start tipping the NP - you will feel the urge to swallow - DON'T!! Unless my sinuses are completely blocked - water will begin to come out your lower nostril. You should always use warm water with the salt packets & start out with half a pot in each nostril. |
