I want to know if I am the only person being subjected to an Ethics & Law class. It's only a 2 credit class, but it is hard as shit. I've asked a
few people who have recently graduated with an Elementary Ed degree about a class like this, and everyone has told me they only took a very short course on
Educational Law. Not an entire class. I am about to gouge my eyes out, I swear. I can barely get through the homework.
Are there any current/former Elementary Ed majors on?

I didn't have to. Although, I had a professor who was OBSESSED with the thought that we were all going to be sued at some point, so I had to memorize all
the educational law cases, anyway.

I had a class last semester where we learned a lot about the famous cases. This is some in depth stuff though. All of the discussion questions are like this:
What is the plaintiff's/defendant's argument? Is it valid? Or my personal favorite: You are the judge on this case. How would you rule and why?
I hate it. I'm not a law student, and never intend to be. I know nothing about stuff like that. How am I supposed to know how to rule a case, let alone use the proper terms for everything? FFS, I just want to be a teacher! |

It might be a requirement of your state. When I was in school I had to take a Philosophy of Education class for Illinois certification. I went to school in
Indiana so I had to find the class in Illinois and take it one summer. Your class actually sounds rather interesting. Sorry you are having a hard time.

My friend definitely had to take an entire class like that for her major. She hated it too so I remember her bitching about it.

I didn't have to take anything like that! My professor for Sped talked a lot about educational law, but that was mostly relating to sped.

I'm an Elementary Ed major and I don't have to take an actual law class, but I'm currently in "Analysis and Application of Ethics, Legal and
Safety Issues in Schools". My previous management class dealt a lot with current laws and regulations, but it wasn't specific to that alone.

I never had to take a class like that, and I have my degree in elementary education and my Masters in special education. The only teachers I know (in Ohio)
that have had to take a class like that are those who are getting their Masters/license as an administrator.
