Ovechkin does play with a reckless abandon but the hit on Gonchar was accidental to me and the right call was made, two for tripping. Didn't deserve a suspenion. Ovy committed to the hit, he was leading with his shoulder. Knee on knees are dangerous to both players, he wouldn't risk that intentionally. In such a bang-bang play when a player turns at the last second and you're at high speed in train tracks it's difficult to change course.
You could tell Ovechkin was rattled afterwards, he let up physically the rest of the game and wasn't a factor. He wasn't looking to take out Gonchar's knee at all, imo.
The Caps were putrid in their own end. I get letting Green go offensively but he's a d-man... he can't skate deep, toss it up the middle and get caught like that.
It'd make me so happy to see the B's knocked out in Boston.
