I don't want anyone to think I'm putting down the Jews or the Jewish religion, I'm just a little curious about one aspect of it. I was just
thinking about something someone said on another forum when they mentioned Adam Lambert on American Idol is a Jew. I know his mother is supposed to be Jewish
(or at least come from a Jewish background) but his father isn't. They said that he's Jewish even if his father isn't. So what I'm wondering
is, why is the Jewish religion (or heritage?) passed down to the kids from the mother and not the father? Couldn't the kids be Jewish from him and not her?
I just wanna know something about the Jewish religion

Kids are jewish if the mom is jewish. Thats why jewish boys are less likely to marry a non jewish woman

Well, I was actually looking for a reason behind this. Why from the mother instead of the father?

I remember from my world religions class, it's something to the effect of, the father's religion might not always be known, but the mother's always
is.

Which is kind of interesting if the father is Jewish and the mother is Christian...Apparently the child is nothing.

My grandma told me that it's because you always know you came from your mother, but you can't always be sure who the father is
