On base percentage Plus Slugging percentage. The + is the league and ballpark adjustment factor, an attempt to make all things equal for everyone. 90-100 is league average.

EqA (equivalent batting average) is actually a little better to measure a hitter's ability, but I didn't have that at hand.

Hmm not really, the book isn't going to say anything that hasn't already been said. And Manny isn't in his prime anymore, when Arod was taking steriods he was. Sooo happy the sox/manny parted ways when they did!

He has a 194 OPS+ this year and had a 165 OPS+ last year, while his career OPS+ is "only" 156.

Age be damned, dude's in as much of his prime as A-Rod is/was.

The only year he's OPS+ed lower than 150 since 1999 was 2008. He's older, but he's not out of his prime as a hitter yet.

Ok, well when I said wasn't in his prime like Arod was I meant that he was finally breaking through as an athlete. Manny has always been a slugger, and it appears that his "prime" may be not really him anyways but the drugs so who knows. His best years in terms of all around player were around 2003-2005. Just because he has a higher OBP doesn't mean that makes him in his prime now. His best AVG. was in 2002, and had the most HR in 2005. Last year he was in two places and barely even played towards the end with the red sox physically, he was too busy complaining and sitting out, then when he went to the dodgers his AVG hiked.

OBP is vastly more important than straight batting average and SLG and line drive percentage are better ways to view power than a HR total.

My point is still the same: Manny has been Manny for a long time. Historically great bat, wonk glove, idiot base runner. His ability, outside of when he was pitching a fit, hasn't shown any significant change. His "prime," PED'ed or not, hasn't been stamped over yet.

And A-Rod broke through back in 1996, years before he supposedly started juicing in Texas (I don't buy the recent high school allegations).
