Posts: 5831 (05/04/2009 1:15 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Friend Block Invite Ignore	I am planning a wedding and I need some objective opinions (when I ask friends/family, everyone seems like they're trying to be super supportive instead of giving me honest opinions). So what do you think about Sunday weddings? Sunday weddings are much less expensive than Saturday weddings. It will be from 1-5PM and it's a cocktail reception so just open bar and hors d'oeurves. Most of the guestlist is family. There will be about 20-25 guests that are in their 20's and 35-40 guests that are mostly between 50-65. Everyone lives at least 45 minutes away from the wedding and a handful are flying in for it. Is it less fun or inconsiderate to have it on a Sunday? (some people might have to miss work Monday) P.S. By having it on a Sunday, that's eliminated because they have work the next day. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if any people that have to travel, decline their invitation. Suddenly the wedding doesn't seem fun but rather about the cost involved (not just a gift, attire but now missing a day's pay).

Especially since it's an afternoon/evening event. If it was later at night on Sunday I would think it's a pain for everyone, but since it's only going until 5pm, I'd have no issues with it.

That leaves their Sunday evening rushed - getting home and getting everything ready for the work week. If I was a Monday worker, I'd decline the invitation.

You said only a handful of people are flying in for it, so maybe you can ask those people how they'd feel. Other than that, I think it's a great way to save money. I want a daytime wedding, too.

Seriously though, Friday night weddings are less expensive than Saturday night weddings so why don't you look into that?

Well the ceremony was in the afternoon and the reception was at night and it was definitely exhausting having to go to classes the next day and then work, but it was fun. And her wedding was pretty expensive actually. I didn't know the prices are cheaper on Sundays..hm. I think since it's during the day on a Sunday it shouldn't be too bad, but if it were me I'd stick to a Saturday probably. My other cousin had hers on a Saturday late afternoon/evening too and that was fun because we stayed over at the hotel and partied the rest of the night and could sleep in on Sunday.

Posts: 4459 (05/04/2009 1:37 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Friend Block Invite Ignore	I've never heard of a wedding that starts at 1 and ends at 5, but that's just me I guess those hours are okay for a Sunday, but like others said...don't be surprised if more than a few people decline the invite, especially if they're traveling. I went to a Sunday wedding one time and HATED it. I also had an 2+ hour drive into another state though, it didn't end until like 11pm and I had a long day of classes and work the next day. Why aren't you feeding your guests a proper dinner? That's what screams 'cheap and inconsiderate' moreso than the Sunday thing. Sorry, you asked for honest feedback.

Especially if it's a nice day and you are having it outside on a nice sunny day .... if it was a small party However, considering the number of people you are inviting and the drive some people have to make and the fact that some are flying in, I think just serving hors d'oeurves is sort of cheap. I think you should change the time and either have an 11am wedding then have a nice outdoor buffet lunch reception under a tent (which is what I did) or get married late afternoon and have an early evening reception again with a buffet meal. These people will be buying you a gift and some are paying airfare and hotel to come and wish you well, the least you could do is feed them and not rush them in and out between lunch and supper!
