I Love NASCAR! And I love going to the races and meeting the drivers as well.

NASCAR is like a careful game of chess - with cars. I too thought they were just going in circles at one time, but it takes an unbelievable skill to
manuever a 3400 lb "beast" around high banked turns with little to no room in the corners, depending on the track, to advance your position and beat
the competition. It also takes a lot of trust to rely on someone who is not even driving the car to give his/her opinion on what moves the driver should make
to have the best outcome in the race.
young millionaires who care nothing about winning. Really? You think David Tyree or Santonio Holmes care nothing about winning what about lebron, d wade,
raephael nadal, roger federer, matt ryan, david price, dustin pedroia.
I touched on this briefly already, but to further take the wind out of your sails allow me to bring to your attention Adam Jones, the current version of Chad Ochocinco, the Dallas Maverick non defense playin' asses, Barry Bonds,A-Rod and the list goes on... The people mentioned here are an embarassment to any athlete who has ever competed in anything. Pac Man decides its a good idea to blow 80k on a naked broad;Chad doesn't care about competing to make his team better, he wants to get paid and move to a big media market to get more face time;the Mavericks allow damn near 120 ppg, Barry Bonds popped pills to the point where his head grew;A-Rod juiced to earn a lucrative contract instead of working on his game. While i realize that there ARE players who want to win, and are dedicated to perfecting their craft, they are in the minority and there are plenty who could care less about wins and losses and just want to keep a contract long enough to draw pension. A rack of NASCAR drivers trying to climb their way up the ladder race for no money at all...This is very common in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Do you know what they are paid? An opportunity, and opportunity to make it to the top. Hell college ball players aren't even playing for free...they are getting broke off too. these are the type of athletes i follow key word athletes. guys who dont rely on a machine to propel them to the top but talent and ability. Have you ever tried to make the turn onto your street going 185mph? If I thought you wouldn't kill yourself, i would tell you to try it. That takes talent, if you don't think it does, try it; but don't, cause you won't make it. trying to control a racecarthat that weighs 3400 lbs., at 160-205 mph takes an athlete, but not just a physical athlete, but a mental athlete. How many basketball players could effectively do their job while listening to an iPOD with someone telling them what the other 9 or 21 players are doing at that very moment on the court or field...while telling Phil Jackson, or Ozzie Guillen, or Bill Bellichick EXACTLY why you are not making jumpshots, tackles, or double plays? I promise you they would cry about how they cant concentrate. NASCAR drivers do this on a more than constant basis, every week. DId I mention the temperature inside a racecar exceeds 130 degrees? How about doing it for 500 laps around the half mile bristol motor speedway in mid-August? dont talk to me about athletes now...do your research...sports fan, huh? Never in nascar can you have a moment like emmit smith rushing for 162 yards with a dislocated shoulder, or micheal jordan scoring 50 with the flu, gibson hitting a home run with a torn mcl, im a fan of heart im a fan blood sweat and tears, player who fight and train to be the strongest, the fastest, and the best. Ricky Rudd is known as the "Ironman" of NASCAR, holding the record for most consecutive starts in NASCAR racing. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, Rudd had made 788 consecutive starts. In 1984, Rudd was involved in a horrific crash in the Busch Clash at Daytona. Rudd's car became airborne, and he suffered a concussion. His eyes were swollen so badly, that he taped his eyes open in order to be able to race in the Daytona 500. A fun weekend of racing for Dale Earnhardt Jr. turned frightening Sunday when a wreck during a warmup for an American Le Mans Series race in Sonoma, Calif. turned his car into a fireball, leaving him hospitalized with burns on his face and legs. Earnhardt's injuries were "moderate-sized burns of moderate intensity," according to medical officials at Infineon Raceway. The ALMS said Earnhardt had second-degree burns on the insides of both legs and on his chin....he raced the following week. No stories huh sports fan? Right. When you want to let me know, there are waaay more where these came from. not some suped up car or how fast a group of guys can change my tires and refill my gas. What can you and 6 of your friends do in less than 14 seconds? I'll give you some more time.... Not much, right. 7 NASCAR crew members can change 4 tires, make mechanical adjustments, fill the gas tank, clean the windshield, and clean debris off the front of the car. The gas can holds 18 gallons of fuel, and weighs 65 lbs when full. The tires weigh 45-55 lbs a piece, depending on how much air is in them. can you even bench press 55 lbs.? dont talk about my athletes as being the only womanizers cuz nascar drivers are notorious about as well. just last week a driver was quoted saying i dont love being a nascar driver cuz i drive a fast car i love being a nascar driver cuz i get to meet hot chicks. I can't debate this, you are right, alot of NASCAR drivers are some man whores, no argument there Its a shame nascar is only exciting when someone damn near dies Don't know if you watched the first clip I posted, but the cat that did the flipping ran (not walk, not limped, but ran) across the finish line, so how did he damn near die? watch this video... http://www.youtube.com/wat The racecars are as safe as they can be...Buddy in this crash raced the next day, all he had was a bruised ankle...Racecars are much safer than your minivan |

I use to think it was nothing but boring also until I started watching it and asking the people who LOVE it what was really going on and all about it. I
didn't turn into a huge fan or anything and I couldn't sit and watch a whole race but its more interesting than I thought!

I enjoy it, but not as much as I used to. I went to the Brickyard with my dad and I didn't feel bored one second...in fact, it went by really really fast.
It's definitely a sport because it takes a lot for the drivers to be able to get through that race. |

I can't get into car racing. But I enjoy the crashes they show on ESPN.

Maybe if you knew more about the sport you wouldn't be so ignorant towards it

diva, NO ONE is going to read all of that, sadly.
Bottom line, NASCAR and motorsport racing in general is a test of wills and about engineering. It is about timing and trying to avoid human error. Man and machine. There's a lot of endurance, strategy and a level of cooperation. |

NASCAR and pretty much any car racing for that matter is just driving a car. Big whoop. That's not a sport--that's something that people do as a method
of transportation.

Believe me, those guys are athletes & MOST of them have HUGE talent as well as skill. I don't expect people to understand but just because you're not a fan doesn't mean it's boring to everyone else. To each his own! |

At least F1 which is what I follow, is very physically demanding and it takes a whole team effort in terms of strategy and skill, I always assumed the same applies to other racing competitions, like NASCAR, if that's the case it definitely should be considered a sport, if it isn't then I don't knowIt's just like that. Strategy, skill, etc. NASCAR and pretty much any car racing for that matter is just driving a car. Big whoop. That's not a sport--that's something that people do as a method of transportation.Yeah, ok. Go ahead and try that and let us know how it works out.
