in 10 years. Anyone here with a background in Oncology? I was so shocked when my Mom told me. I can't even begin to think about what she must be going
through.

I'm sorry to hear. I'm hoping for a good outcome for her.
May I ask what kind of cancer, if you don't mind? |

Breast cancer.
The first time it was discovered she had a lumpectomy. Two years later she had a lumpectomy w/radiation, and four years later she had a double mastectomy with total reconstruction. This time it started out feeling like a little pimple in the cleavage area. She had it biopsied and found out it was cancerous. She'll have to do chemotherapy this time around.
eta: they're pretty sure it's an estrogen-fed cancer. They'll want to send her into menopause so they'll remove the ovaries. I'm confused as to why they didn't do this years ago. |

My sister has had breast cancer twice. The first time she had a lumpectomy and chemo and radiation. The second time she had a mastectomy and now she takes a
pill everyday. I hope your sister does well this time.

I'm so sorry, unfortunately it happens all the time, and 10 years was quite some time ago. They are always coming up with new treatment modalities, I hope
she does well.
One of my patients had been getting ultra sounds, routine mammograms since she was 30, she even had an oncologists at that age....all because of strong family history. She was even on tamoxifen to PREVENT breast cancer and guess what happened at one of her mammograms? Yep! Cancer. I hate it and it drives me insane. |

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It really is disheartening at this point.
NiteSky, my GYN told me that since digital mammograms have been used more often over the last couple of years, they've found spots/small masses that they never would have seen with analog scans. |

Well the fucked up part is that this woman had even had an MRI. I mean FUCK, she did EVERYTHING right and this shit still happens to her. BUT, she's
doing well so far so that does make me happy.

I am so sorry to hear that, my prayers are with your sister and your family.
My mother has been through cancer twice, i've been through it once as well as several other people in my family. I don't know exactly what you are going through but I know how tough cancer can be on the patient and on the family, but technology has come a long way and it's always to soon to be giving up hope so try and stay strong. |
