I graduated from college in May 2008 with a degree in Psychology and still having trouble finding a job. I am going to go back to school for my Master's
degree, but still wish I have a full-time job now. Is anyone else having trouble getting a job?

Oh for crying out loud. Why answer that way? Anyhow ... Poohgirl, I've read a lot of posts here about young people getting out of university having
difficulty so you're not alone. Hopefully, the US economy will pick up soon and new jobs will be created but currently, it's all over the news how more
and more people are losing their jobs as companies shut down.

My friend had this problem and she also had a degree in psychology.
What she did is tons of benevole work and internships to have a great resume, she asked to be a benevole or do internships at schools, centers...and found a job after a few months because her employer was impressed with her resume and all the extra work she had done. |

Yeah, I watch the news, yeah I know the economic situation. I asked the question because I know many people that I graduated with that have found jobs. I just
wanted to here other people's stories because I am curious. But I guess that was too much to ask, right?

Yep, I'm right there with you. I've gotten some temp jobs though to save up money so I can move to a city where hopefully there are a few more
opportunities.

came out a bit ruder than I meant sorry, what I was saying is that there have been a ton of news articles not only about the economy but specifically about how
america's generation of grads the past few years have an astonishingly low job rate after college. Hang in there and I agree volunteer work to boost the
resume if you can afford it.

Yeah Kamadzea, I've been volunteering at different places to gain experiences because I had none when I first graduated.

No problem. Thanks for the advice, because I know that alot of people besides me are frustrated. In fact, I just got another loan repayment package in the
mail today.

I graduated 12/2007! Still unemployed, I did a contract job for the tax season tho and it took me a whole year to find that. I'm back job hunting now.

What kind of job can you get with a BA in Psych anyway? I think grad school is your best bet.

I've heard before that you can't do much with a bachelor's in psych, and that you really need at least a master's. I'm sorry you're
having a hard time though.

Yeah, I always planned on getting my Master's degree, but I'm hoping I can get a job before I go back. |

I graduated in May 08 with a BA in psychology, too. I wound up finding a job as a research assistant. Have you tried looking for jobs like that? I can share
some tips if you're interested in a research related job.

StarsareBlind wrote:Sure! Well, first of all, these probably aren't jobs you would be able to find on monster or careerbuilder or anything. If you live near any colleges or universities or research institutes, check their websites. Most will have a section where you can look for available jobs. If you are near any hospitals, you'd want to check out their websites, too, as some also do research there. I've also heard of people finding luck this way: If you go to http://report.nih.gov/award/State/state08.cfm , you can find a list of places that have received research grants by state. Once you have that list, just look through and see if anywhere near you is doing any psychology related research. Unfortunately, it doesn't list any contact info for those that have received a grant, but if you do some detective work on Google, you should be able to find an email address. Then you can just email the person and say you're interested in the research they're doing, you're wondering if they have any research assistant spots available, you would love to be involved, yadda yadda yadda. I've actually heard of quite a few people having success this way. A lot of the time these types of jobs aren't advertised or listed on websites, so it takes some legwork finding them. It also really helps if you have had previous research experience. I've seen people get jobs without it, but it definitely helps. It could be beneficial to volunteer as a research assistant somewhere for a little while first. |

I graduated in December 2005 and I still haven't found a full time teaching job. I've been subbing, but nothing full time yet.
