I am on my 7th week of pregnancy and my dr. put me on progesterone suppositories. I am just PRAYING everything works out. She told me my levels but I had never heard of this before so the numbers didnt mean much to me at the time? Does anyone have a story about getting put on this...and did everything work out?

This is my second pregnancy as well.....and my first one I had no complications whatsoever! This one already I started to bleed, went in, they told me I probably miscarried...they did blood work...came back I was still pregnant. They were afraid of ectopic pregnancy. I went in for a sonogram and we saw a heart beat!! My little baby that I thought I lost was there and heart beating!! I NEVER want to see that nurse practitioner that told me miscarriage again... saw the doctor and she said my progesterone levels increased, but they did not double, and they like to see double. So she put me on progesterone...I didnt know much about this, so i didnt know the questions to ask!!! Now I am kicking myself. I dont go back for another 3 weeks.....I should just call and ask what my levels were.

At about week six for me my progesterone was 11.1 and never got higher than 19. The suppositories helped, but yuck! I'm TTC again and she thinks I'll be on them again as well. My progesterone is always really low.

HCG is what they want to see double, normally every 2-3 days in early pregnancy. Progesterone varies up and down all the time and doesn't have any "doubling" associated with it. Unless she's just saying yours are really low and she wants to see it double what it is.

I put one in at night..and notice a little leakage the next day, but just wear a liner. I just keep praying!!! I dont know whether to be happy yet...

And she put me on the progesteron supositories...so I am pretty sure its my progesterone thats low

If you up the dosage to twice per day, the vaginal itching or irritation can be more prevalent. But overall, outside of the discharge/leakage associated with it, it's not that bad.

It is THE hormone measured to determine pregnancy, both with pee-on-a-stick tests and blood tests. Progesterone is often measured along with HCG during blood tests, as it should be within a certain range for most pregnancies. You probably do have low progesterone, obviously since you're on the suppositories, but doubling, bleeding, and concerns of ectopic are normally associated with HCG. That said, being on progesterone doesn't hurt anything and can help, and some doctors and most fertility specialists put you on them whether or not you need them, just for good measure.

Thanks for the explanation. She only put me on 200mg per day dosage...and didnt need to see me back for 4 weeks. So I am hoping this means things are okay? I am debating whether I should call and try to get in earlier to see if the suppositories are helping.

I was also on 200mg a day, which I always did when I got in bed and then just didn't get up until the morning or several hours later if I had to pee. You can always call and request a blood test to see if your progesterone has gone up. They shouldn't have any problem with that, I don't think. If you need to stay on them, it's normally only for the first trimester.
