I feel the same way. I've been out of work since November and can count on one hand how many interviews I've been on. I'm so frustrated. I had my
loans deferred for a 6 month period already, so I'm going to start paying them off with the money I have set aside and when it runs out, I'll guess
I'll get them deferred again. Hopefully, I'll find a job by then.

Can you bring a resume to a job placement agency? It's free until they find you an actual job. THey'll give you temp work until you get a regular
job... answering phones, filling in when someone's sick, etc.

I'm in the same boat. It's frustrating, but I hope to find something before the year is out.

It's frustrating, but I guess it does make it better to know that there are several people out there who are going through the same thing. I applied for a
city position, made it through the testing, and got an interview last week. I think the lady really wanted to hire me, but she said that the position was
pending the city reviewing their budget. If they don't have enough $, not only will they not hire anyone new but they'll be firing people already with
them. So yeah, I'm not holding my breath for this to happen, especially since another interview for the same position (only with another area in the city
govt) was canceled the day before due to "budget restrictions".
I haven't heard from the temp agency I'm with in awhile, too, even though I do good work and I'm always the first they called in the past. They're not getting anything now.

June here. I am surviving with the help of friends, boyfriend and family. I paid off my car last month so that is one less bill to worry about! YAY!

My mom is always like "ITS NOT YOU. ITS THE ECONOMY" but it really doesn't make me feel better when I have loans that are steady gaining interest
and there will be a huge gap in employment in my resume. And I really want to get my life started and not live at home with my parents. I worked really hard in
school not to be in this position.

It's tough but that's just how the economy is right now. I know a few people who can't get retail/restaurant jobs either because they have a
degree.
I'm in the same boat but I graduated back in 2007. I don't really need the money yet so I'm sacrificing myself doing full time volunteer work. I hope eventually I'll make enough contacts to find a full time job. |

If you have a degree, they can pretty much figure out that you are taking a retail or restaurant job to hold you over until you can get something in your field. |

I thought since the economy was horrible that there would be NO way I could get a summer job as a college student. After some searching I actually have found
two jobs for the summer but I applied everywhere, so just keep applying to ANYWHERE that you can think of. After awhile something could come up

The economy is not going to turn around for years. That's longer than the average person holds a restaurant/retail job.

I am having the hardest time just finding a part time job. News reports are saying that so many people are now going after those small part time jobs that even
they are getting competitive and hard to get, for the few that do come up. It is really discouraging.

I dont get student loans...gotta pay it all by myself. i owe t-mobile $220, BofA $334, my mom $274 and i have an $86 phone bill due tomorrow to AT&T. idk what im gonna do. I'll work it out though. This is only temporaryDo what I did with T-Mobile. Switch to one of their prepaid phones. I can get away with havng a good phone and paying only $100 for 1000 minutes that last me for a whole year. Instead of $200+ a month. And I can still access the internet, text, everything. Just pay the minimum on your BofA that's what I'm doing as well, since I only have a part time job and get 12 hours a week if I'm lucky. So I pay what I can. My mom let's me slide on hers knowing how tough it is. She just keeps a notebook of what I owe her, and when I can pay her I just go and enter the amount I paid her, the date, and subtract it from the rest. |
