Technically they aren't allowed to treat you, but if they did I can't imagine them making you pay.

I mean when you consult doctors other than your parent(s).

Of course you do, lol. Not all doctors know each other or give freebies

It depends. My dad is quite known in the area. Sometimes I have and sometimes I haven't. However it's not a big thing to me if I have to pay because
it's only like $5-$10 for the co-pay. A better perk imo is being able to call last minute and make an appointment within the following week instead of
having to wait months for one.

When I was a kid I'd chill at my moms hospital in one of the rooms while I was sick/didn't feel like going to school. I doubt it cost her anything.
ETA: barely related to the OP's question but I felt like sharing.

Yeah I don't think other doctors give a crap if your parents are doctors also, they want their money!

I hardly ever pay. They all know each other so I usually wait less than a week.

This question isn't stupid.
My dad's in family practice. So I saw his partner. Did not pay. I just emailed my sister to ask her if he now charges her to see her children. I'll update you when I hear back! But I just verified with my mom that our eye doctor did not ever charge anyone in the family (he retired a few years ago and I no longer live in my hometown, so obviously, I pay for eye doctor visits now), and the dentist gave us a 20% discount. Also, all medications from the pharmacy were charged at cost, so we just paid what the pharmacy paid so they didn't lose money on us, but they didn't make money on us either. It was different if we went to the hospital. Any hospital charges, like for an MRI or something, we'd pay (I'm pretty sure). And then the doctor's fees would depend on if the doctor we saw had a relationship with my dad. (Also, I say "we pay," but obviously, we had health insurance, so it wasn't all out of pocket.) |

I grew up in a small town so everyone knew my dad. When I went to the doctor, if they asked for a copay I just said "doctor's courtesy" and
explained that I was Dr. ___'s daughter and then they didn't charge me.

my grandfather sometimes didn't have to pay. One time this guy mailed the check back that my grandfather gave to the secretary on the sly when I went to
the doctor.
